Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Catalina Magee. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Catalina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I can vividly remember my childhood days when I was constantly impersonating those around me – it was an instinctive art of mimicry, if you will. I suppose it was this deeply ingrained fascination with assuming another’s persona that naturally guided me towards the craft of acting. I have fond memories of my aunts urging me to mimic some individuals, resulting in huge laughter filling the room. Bringing that joy to them through humor was something I genuinely cherished.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
How did I get into acting? I did my first theater play at the age of 12 or 13. From the moment I stepped on stage for my first school play, I was utterly enthralled. I was hooked in a true sense – from then on, there was no looking back. Instead of ‘pretending’ to be someone else, acting felt like an extension of myself – the most genuine expression of who I am.
Even though I didn’t venture into on-screen acting until my 20s, the fire for it always burned within me. My initial exposure to being in front of the lens came through modeling and winning beauty pageants. My first acting role was in a wine commercial.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Absolutely, there are a number of resources and tools that I wish I had been aware of when I first started my journey into acting. For one, the true impact of acting workshops and coaching can’t be overstated. They provide not just technical skills, but also the opportunity to network, learn from peers, and understand the intricacies of the industry.
Additionally, I wish I’d more deeply understood the importance of studying classic and contemporary literature. Reading widely opens up your ability to understand different perspectives, and helps you deliver more authentic performances that resonate deeply with your audience.
Lastly, I would say that the opportunity to self-study, from learning scripts, watching the performances of great actors worldwide, to getting feedback on your own performances, is something I would have treasured at the beginning of my career.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
From my personal perspective, the most rewarding facet of being an actress is the chance to tell stories that matter, stories that can influence, inspire, and provoke thought in people. Acting, for me, offers the unique opportunity to explore various human emotions, facets, and experiences in depth.
Every time I immerse myself in a character, it’s like embarking on a brand new journey. But, to see the audience moved by that performance, to know that we shared a profound human connection, if only for a short span of time – that is truly rewarding.
Moreover, it’s an immense privilege to be in a position where one can use their visibility for positive change. Speaking up on critical issues, contributing to philanthropic causes, and fostering awareness about things I deeply care for, adds an extra layer of fulfillment to my career.
