We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Simone Washington a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Simone, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
Of course it takes being 42 and experiencing lessons in life that make me now appreciate it; but I can honestly say, as a single mother-Susan definitely got it right. She instilled just enough fear that garnered all the respect needed, but not so much that my sister and I were fearful of her. She provided a healthy balance. She taught us to work hard and never half step. You were only allowed 24 hours to have a pitty party and then it was all about adjusting your crown and FITFO(if you catch my drift). My mother is literally the mother that a lot of people wish they had.

Simone, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I make it my business to text my past clients directly. I don’t just depend on my social media posts to connect with them. Of course social media helps, but there is nothing like making someone feel special with personalized communication.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The lesson I had to unlearn is that your friends are your friends, but it doesn’t guarantee they will support your business. You couldn’t have told me that my friends weren’t going to be busting down the doors of my business when I opened. However, this experience has taught me that it’s ok. I’m grateful for those who have helped to mold my business even with just a simple shout out or repost. There are many ways to support my business. But word of mouth, definitely goes a very long way.
