Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Carlos Galeana. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Carlos, thanks for joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
I grew up in Los Angeles as the proud son of Mexican immigrants. My parents instilled essential values that I try to live by daily. My father taught me the value of hard work and resourcefulness. Without a formal education, he could solve complex problems in the workplace using his skillset and earned experience. On the other hand, my mother demonstrated kindness and empathy towards people in need. One inspiring story is when she gifted a car to a friend to help them make their doctor’s appointments. These values have shaped how I approach life. Bringing a positive change in the lives of others drives me.
Carlos, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a technology trainer who enjoys helping adults acquire new skills that can assist them in their workplaces or entrepreneurial endeavors. Since 2014, I have been providing technology training in a public library setting. I conduct group courses and one-on-one consultations with library customers. Over the years, I have led hundreds of classes and thousands of technology appointments. My work has helped people reconnect with their families, secure employment, earn promotions, and establish a digital legacy for their loved ones. In 2017, the Library Journal magazine recognized my work in promoting digital literacy in communities in the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area. When the pandemic struck, I assisted in the distribution of hundreds of tablets and laptops to communities in the Puget Sound. Currently, I conduct virtual workshops on various topics such as internet safety, digital wellness, accessibility, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and digital design in English and Spanish nationwide. I love seeing my learners grow their skills and gain confidence. I believe in making learning fun and demystifying complex and abstract concepts.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
One of my favorite books that has significantly influenced my perspective on customer service is “The Four Agreements” by Miguel Ruiz. The book delves into Toltec wisdom, emphasizing how adhering to four agreements can contribute to a fulfilling life and enable one to serve others with care, kindness, and respect. The four agreements are as follows: always strive to do your best, remain true to your word, avoid taking things personally, and refrain from making assumptions. Although I occasionally find the need to revisit these agreements, I have discovered that this book has profoundly shaped how I engage with both clients and colleagues. Helping others achieve their technological goals is an important responsibility that I take seriously, and I deliver my training with the utmost care.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Ensuring that my clients receive value is my top priority, and I use various methods to achieve this. A crucial factor involves emphasizing the client’s experience by ensuring they feel heard and respected. Moreover, I dedicate significant time to meticulous preparation for my technology training workshops. This involves extensive research on relevant topics before developing content, guaranteeing that my clients receive an exceptional product.
