We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Obinna Idoko. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Obinna below.
Obinna, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
It was after my Secondary School education, I wanted to apply for a course in the university but I didn’t know which course to apply for. My aunt advised me to apply for fine art and I agreed. I went for drawing tutorials so that I could get better for my screening exam, after drawing became something I couldn’t stop doing
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started drawing as a teenager, I also studied art in the university. My work addresses issues like mental health, relationship, death and psychology. I use surrealistic composition of human figures to examine the black society through the lenses of social, economic and mental struggle in a bid to provide the audience with something to relate to when they feel down
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I think NFT is here to stay, I see it as another way for artists to make money especially artists not signed to galleries. Also artists can now make money when their nft works are resold, unlike before
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
There are books that have helped shape my habits and also my mindset about life. Books like Compound effect, outwitting the devil, think and grow rich, steal like and artists, principles etc.
