We recently connected with Spenser Chambers and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Spenser, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I have had many jobs in my life. In college, I constantly changed what I thought I wanted to major in. I have a couple of degrees in health care but still felt as if something was missing. I was bored, burnt out, and in search of something that brought me to life. I remember watching episodes of Shark Tank while I was couch ridden by recovering from graveyard shifts at the hospital. I really admired those people that had enough courage to stand up for their passions and create something that could serve others while becoming entrepreneurs. I often wondered if I was capable of something so big. It was about 6 years ago that I decided to wake up early and journal. I had so much energy out of nowhere for some odd reason that sparked a fire inside me. I felt so motivated and so optimistic for life. I would write down ideas, thoughts that excited me, and brainstormed ideas of creating a business out of passion. I knew I was meant to do more with my career. It was at that time that I realized how much I loved moments. I loved capturing them in my life with my kids and my family. I loved documenting milestones as well as my own growth and my own journey. It wasn’t long before I bought my first camera and then the rest was history!
Spenser, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi! I’m Spenser, owner and operator of SC Photography. I ditched my health care career to jump all in with my passion, photography. I have two super precious little girls and one amazing supportive human I get to call “husby.” I specialize in couples, elopements, and weddings. I am a big fan of boudoir and offer these sessions as well as include them in some of my bridal packages. I also offer lifestyle sessions for families, seniors, and maternity. I am big on experience and always try to go above and beyond for each of my clients. I want to create long lasting relationships as well as make the photo process a fun and easy one! I love helping with styling, location scouting, being a DJ at your session (yup, bringing my speaker), and of course, posing! It’s always my goal to make you feel super comfortable in front of the camera and not worry about awkward, stiff, cheesy posing. I pour my heart and soul into what I do and want you to feel that from booking to gallery delivery!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media is wild, haha! I think the most important thing to take away from social platforms is that your following does not determine your worth. There is so much comparison and competition out there. It’s very bad for our mental health and self worth. The key take away to building an audience is to be yourself and serve your audience. How are you showing up to help your ideal customer? Are you answering their questions and providing the information they need for your products or services? Are you engaging with them? Are you creating content that’s entertaining or educational? Those are all great starting points. Videos are also a BIG deal now. You don’t have to keep up with everything all of the time but do pivot when you have to. Don’t know how? Pull up a YouTube video or google your questions. Everything is always figureouttable.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Absolutely! A goal of mine is to have others see themselves in the light that I see them in. Bringing individuals confidence and the ability to express or accept who they really are is beyond rewarding. Giving mother’s a forever gift of a moment in time with their babies. Bringing couples back to a feeling from an image ten years after their wedding day. There is so much meaning behind the work that I do and I am greatly humbled to be apart of everyone’s journey through this beautiful life we get to lead.
