We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sabryia Reese. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sabryia below.
Alright, Sabryia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One deeply underappreciated facet of entrepreneurship is the kind of crazy stuff we have to deal with as business owners. Sometimes it’s crazy positive sometimes it’s crazy negative, but crazy experiences unite entrepreneurs regardless of industry. Can you share a crazy story with our readers?
The beginning of Entrepreneurship started off crazy hahaha. In December of 2016, me and my then 1.5 yr old were homeless. That was a rock bottom I never thought i’d see but there I was. I realized that being someone everyone else expected me to be got me nowhere, so I vowed to GOD that if He got me out of there, I would do whatever it took to be who He’s called me to be. I prayed and HE gave me the idea to start a business I just didn’t know what. Ironically, a friend of mine called me randomly and suggested taking “business classes” at some place in NJ called Rising Tide. I had to laugh because I never told her what I said to GOD so clearly this was all him. I signed up and in 7 months, I landed a job, finished my classes and left the shelter on my own to my first place in NJ. At this time, I still was kind of confused but I knew I wanted to help people come out of places like the one I was just in. So, I started researching the best way to upgrade resumes, interview tactics, etc…as my services. But GOD had other plans! That same friend called me one day shortly after graduation and told me she recommended me to someone that needed a website and figured I knew how to do since I was good with computers. I was soooo furious!!! Like, howwww did you arrive at this conclusion? I didn’t even know how to say no however. And I took this client. I taught myself how to design and charged them $150 for a landing page. Needless to say, that was the beginning of Our Image Matters, LLC. I’ve taught myself everything I know (well GOD gave me the skills for sure) and have built this business and brand from the ground up. Literally!
Sabryia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Absolutely!! Well, hello. My name is Sabryia “The Fairy Brandmother,” I build brands that stay in demand. I don’t design, I execute & bring vision to life. My clients call me the Olivia Pope of Branding because i’m the one you call when you’re ready to set your business apart from the rest. Branding is of course an ongoing process and consists of many things. However, just to simplify, whatever you can imagine, I can design. From your website, your logo, flyers, billboards, even apparel. Whether a brand is just starting or is established but needs to refine their vision, i’m the executionist every brand needs! I handle business 2 business transactions. Most of my clients are business owners who simply don’t have the time to create content, update their website or beautify their brand. I add time back into their already busy schedules while giving the comfort of knowing that their vision is in the right hands.
Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
There was a big influencer here in Atlanta that was holding a job fair. I had no idea but several people tagged me in the post to apply. At this time, I was still new to atlanta so I kinda saw this as the light at the end of the tunnel and a sign I made the right decision to pick and move down here a few months prior. I knew her significant other was a legend in music and as the Fairy Brandmother, my specialty is thinking outside of the box. So, I designed a portfolio of items custom designed for her brand and printed out several copies to hand out to her team. I then curated an introduction video with her music behind it for a little razzle dazzle but more importantly, to show my skillset. Needless to say, I landed the job and they told me no one has EVER done that before. It was a moment in my life that reassured my faith and reminded me that if I wasn’t capable, the opportunities wouldn’t come. So, keep showing up as ME and do the absolute MOST!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
The biggest thing that has carried me through my career so far is the consistency in the quality I provide. Majority of my clients come through word of mouth. So, I always come highly recommended. I’ve even gained clients who initially went somewhere else but saw what I did and decided to end their contract and give me a try. As a business owner, one thing to always remember is, a major part of your brand is the “customer experience.” It’s what really separates you from the rest and makes people want to spend their money with you instead of someone else. Don’t look at what other people have or are doing. Pay attention to what they “offer” and what’s missing. Do you solve problems other competitors in your market have ignored or are incapable of helping with? Do your customers get excited shopping with you? These are the things that build reputation and sustain you as a brand.
