Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tomika Reid. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Tomika thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on was writing a memoir. Sharing a story I never wanted to share.
After going through loss, trials, and tribulations, a childhood friend told me I needed to write a book. I was unsure.
It was not until after the passing of my second daughter’s father I received a phone call from my oldest daughter’s aunt saying, “The spirit is telling me to tell you to write,” It was then that I realized I needed to share my testimony by writing a book so others can be encouraged to keep going and know that you are not alone.
I have mustered up the courage to pull from my journals and turn it into a book. Since the book was released, not only did the book help others, but it also was therapeutic for me.
My story has been an inspiration to many. I never thought I could make an impact on someone else’s life.
Turning my pain into a purpose to help others is meaningful to me. If people can see that I was able to forgive, stay strong, get through the things I’ve gone through, and share my story by the grace of God, they can, too.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am the author of five books, currently working on the sixth book. Becoming an author was not a plan of mine.
Growing up, I journaled a lot but never thought to write a book. I enjoy writing and sharing my story to inspire others. When I’m able to share my story and touch the heart of someone, it supersedes the pain I’ve had to endure. It gives me great joy.
I am most proud of my accomplishments, and being able to help others through my writing and words of encouragement. Writing a book isn’t an easy task. You can say you are going to write a book, yet don’t follow through but I did even when I didn’t want to.
I like to write books that hold a message—a message to inspire, encourage, and motivate. I’d like to think that what sets me apart from others is the strength and resilience I have to keep going no matter what I’ve been through and help others along the way to also know that you can always turn your pain into a purpose, and negative into a positive. That’s powerful.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being creative is that I get to take something from within me and use it as a form of service to help others.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy is networking, no one will ever know about your product if you don’t talk/network.
