We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Anya Kalia a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Anya, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?

Acting has always been a strong passion of mine. I would always try to improve my acting by watching a lot of videos online that would help me learn how to get into character. In 7th grade, I had taken part in my school’s theater class. I remember enjoying it so much. I was able to hone my skills and learn a lot of new things. Then after, I took my first acting class. As time went on, I enrolled myself in more and more classes. I loved how I was able to meet new people that were also like-minded and enjoyed the craft.

Anya, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

When I first found out about the craft of acting, I was extremely amused. I love immersing myself into different characters and being able to tell a story to an audience. It allows me to explore different emotions and perspectives. I want to continue acting forever and ever! I love every part of it, such as getting the audition to booking the role and rehearsing the lines. One of my favorite things to do is make a script with my friends and practice it. It’s really fun!

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?

I have always liked the art of acting. I remember wanting to pursue the craft professionally for the longest time, but not knowing how and where to start. I wished I had realized earlier that there were many resources online, such as videos and articles, that are super informative and can help one out immensely. As I began to watch and read about how to begin, I was able to learn a lot. This really helped me start my acting career.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?

In the acting industry, one needs to have a lot of determination and persistence. It is important for actors to never compare their journey to somebody else’s. Something that a lot of people may not know is that there can be a lot of rejection, so it is crucial that one never gives up and continues moving forward, no matter what! The adventure of an actor also consists of embracing the unknown and learning a lot of great things along the way!
