We were lucky to catch up with Xavier Garza recently and have shared our conversation below.
Xavier , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
The music industry as we all know has become extremely hard for artist to make it yes some slip thru the cracks of social media but most go unheard and drop their dreams for lack of exposure… Being a radio personalty allows me to creat a platform for upcoming artist who are striving to be heard and exposed on a different level Radio play still is a very Huge part of the music world.
I take pride in having that opportunity in being in a position to help those who really take their craft seriously . Those who live and breath the talent of music…
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I myself have struggled in the business we all know its not easy … First and foremost id like to thank God for my voice and talent and my parents for their unconditional love and support throughout the years… My attention to detail and the love for music is what sets me apart, ever since I can remember I was always around dj equipment or pretending to interview my kid friends with a stick microphone or actually filming my friends with the old vHS cameras in the neighborhood or dressing up as my favorite Rockstars “KISS” and performing in front of my parents friends during Bbq’s lol .. I JUST LOVE MUSIC SO MUCH! Growing up i always always carried somekind of music devise walkman/Boombox/Headphones etc.
Now at the age of 55 im living my dream still around Music and artist … Im extremely proud to say im no longer holding a stick microphone lol i currently work for two Radio station in my Hometown of Corpus Christi 1st I host a Morning Tejano show called Los Dos compadres long side my long time friend i consider my Brother ernest Lopes of Lopez Broadcasting… 2nd I was given the great opportunity By another great Personality and Program Diector to Join Iheartradio station Wild 105..5 team as a Host for LATIN KRAZE RADIO SHOW…. including my very own Social media show Called the Javo G show on fb live going on 4 years very successful show still going strong today.. So having 3 major and very different Platforms give me more strength to help struggling artist.. As well as still shooting Video except Now on Digital cameras …I’ve had the honor of working with Freddie records the #1 independent Record label in the US dealing and shooting music videos for some of the top Tejano Artist such as The late great Jimmy Gonzales, Siggno, Solido, Micheal Salgado Elida Reyna the list goes on and on … So Im happy to say I’ve been there and done that ..
My visions as a video director and my love for music is what sets me apart I truly love the Art and the artist especially the abilty to express feelings thru music… i just love when a person can sing a song so passionate that it can bring tears to ones eyes or when a music video inspires one or make them feel some kind od way bei it happy sad or love… its music the universal language… I consider my self a talent scout ,,,, So if i can help you express your dreams and words thru song and music or video , thats what i believe im here for…. I believe in the underdog that person everyone says oh he or she will never make it… I beg to differ Im here to help any and all artist that truly believe in themselves … if i can just put you on one of my platforms and give you that lil push and exposure you need I will… and thats what i bring to the table THAT LIL EXTRA PUSH TO GET YOU STARTED.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Believing in yourself is key Know one will promote you more than you … Let the Haters be your motivators Listen , Listen, Learn, Study your craft and become the best version of you, Ive had family members and close friends put me down and say horrible things about my career choice …enough to make a person want to quite… ive been very lucky and piveleged to have been able to move around the United states. from Texas i moved to California, illinois, Georgia, and Mecico , and have picked up many skills along the way Different Cultures, and especially Public Relation skills you will find that there is so much out there than just your home town don’t be afraid to move around and breathe in a different environment…. Being around different cultures and people not only makes you a greater person but you get to explore different attitudes business foods, locations atmosphere i beleive it has molded me into the person i am today .. yes i missed home but my resilience kept me gone with the hungrr learn more!!! move around dont stay stagnant in one place there is so much out there you just have to go out and get it
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Do not build obstacles before getting started in business …the who the when the how it will all fall in to place once you take that leap of faith , like in any business We all know it takes money to make money
My first credit line was at guitar center who gave me credit to buy a small system for Djing ….Speakers ,mixer, lights and microphone thanks to my wife Stella and her help the rest is history… that lil system had paid itself time and time again… Even bought my camera gear and editing computers for my video projects.. Their is always a way so dint quit before you get started … Dream big and go after anything you want its all their for you
