We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nicolas Nami. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nicolas below.
Nicolas, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard.
At Nami Pictures, the approach to motion design and client interaction is distinctively different from the industry standard, focusing on a blend of personalized client engagement and sustainable business practices.
In terms of project selection, I am selective, choosing to work on projects where clients seek my specific expertise in motion design and video editing, rather than just looking for a generic ‘motion designer’ or ‘editor’. This discernment ensures that I engage in projects where my unique skill set and creative vision are not just needed, but genuinely valued. It’s about creating work that resonates both with me and the client, leading to more fulfilling and impactful results.
The practice of handling project revisions reflects this philosophy. A clear scope of work is provided, including a set number of revisions to ensure the client’s vision is accurately captured. Beyond this, additional revisions are available but as billable hours. This approach respects the creative process and the professional worth of the work, balancing quality, client satisfaction, and fair compensation.
This strategy isn’t solely about billing and revisions; it’s deeply rooted in building strong, respectful client relationships. Direct engagement and understanding client needs lead to collaborative and innovative designs. This approach was exemplified in a recent project that evolved beyond its initial scope. Through transparent communication, the client understood the value of additional revisions, resulting in a product that exceeded expectations and strengthened our professional relationship.
However, this selective approach to project acceptance is also a response to the industry’s trend of undervaluing creative work, with many offering services at unsustainably low prices. By choosing projects where clients specifically seek my expertise, I position Nami Pictures not just as a service provider, but as a creative partner who adds distinct value. This ensures that I’m not competing on price but on the quality and uniqueness of my work.
This business model at Nami Pictures is more than just a set of practices; it’s a commitment to excellence and integrity in motion design. It’s about delivering exceptional work that aligns with both the client’s vision and my creative ethos, while maintaining a thriving, sustainable business. This approach has led to a strong, respectful client base and an environment that fosters creativity, innovation, and professional growth in the motion design industry.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As Nicolas Nami from Nami Pictures, my expertise lies in motion design, video editing, photography, and filming. My path into this industry was driven by a passion for visual storytelling and a commitment to explore the dynamic world of digital media. This passion led to the establishment of Nami Pictures, where I focus on providing a range of creative services.
My offerings include high-quality video production, advanced motion graphics, professional photography, and expert video editing. These services are tailored to help businesses and individuals effectively and engagingly communicate their messages through visual media.
What distinguishes my work in this competitive field is my dedication to innovation and quality. I am always seeking new techniques and technologies to enhance my work, ensuring that clients receive impactful and up-to-date visual solutions. My approach involves a deep collaboration with clients, understanding their vision and transforming it into visually striking media.
I take great pride in my adaptability and success in the fast-paced digital media landscape. My portfolio reflects a diverse range of projects, from corporate videos and brand campaigns to artistic pieces, each showcasing my versatility and creative prowess.
For potential clients, followers, and fans, I want them to understand that at Nami Pictures, storytelling and creating valuable content are at the core of what I do. My aim is to help each client tell their story compellingly, using the power of visuals to connect, engage, and inspire audiences. Whether the goal is brand promotion, capturing a special moment, or creating something innovative, I am dedicated to turning that vision into a reality.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
For me, the best source of new clients has been through friends who take the time to understand my journey, who I am, and my unique approach to creating solutions. These friends, familiar with my passion and commitment to my craft, often become advocates for my work. They share their knowledge of my skills and creative philosophy with potential clients, providing a personal and trustworthy endorsement. This word-of-mouth approach is incredibly effective, as it comes with a level of sincerity and authenticity that traditional marketing channels can’t match. It’s through these personal connections that my work and reputation have grown organically, attracting clients who appreciate the depth and quality of my services.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A significant lesson I had to unlearn was the belief that “more clients always equals more success.” Initially, I operated under the assumption that the key to thriving in my field was to accumulate as many clients as possible. This mindset led me to take on numerous projects, often without considering whether they aligned with my core strengths or creative vision.
The backstory to this realization was a period where I found myself overwhelmed with work, yet not feeling fulfilled or seeing the growth I desired. I was taking on projects that didn’t necessarily fit my expertise or didn’t excite me creatively. This led to burnout and a dilution of the quality I strove for in my work.
Through this experience, I learned the importance of quality over quantity in client relationships. I shifted my focus to working with clients whose projects aligned with my skills and passions. This change not only improved my work-life balance but also allowed me to produce work of a higher caliber, leading to greater satisfaction for both my clients and myself. This unlearning process was crucial for my personal and professional development, guiding me towards more meaningful and fulfilling engagements.
