David, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?

I want my legacy to be an example of perseverance. An illustration of someone that was fiercely determined, and never gave up on my dreams, no matter the odds. Yes, there were occasions when the road became dark, and the tasks seemed impossible. Although my belief that God had placed me on the track that He thought was best for me allowed me to keep the faith, and continue to press on!

David, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I entered the literary industry by becoming an avid reader of true crime novels. I was intrigued by the detail in which the writers used to describe events and characters. After every book that I read, I would critique the book and think what I would have done different had I been the author. Eventually, I decided to start writing. After my first book, I became hooked! Also, I realized that writhing for me was more than a passion, writing and creating characters is my gift. Currently I have two books published that are available on Amazon. One is the true story about my challenges with a life-threatening illness titled “Just Keep Living”. The other book is my first novel! The title is “The Boss Family.” The Boss Family is about a family on the Southside of Chicago that grew up in poverty with the desire, and a strategy to create generational wealth. My clothing line that I created called “BossLand” was inspired by the novel The Boss Family. What I am most proud of regarding my career is my tenacity, and my determination to never give up! I had no formal training in the literary field, so I had to learn by just stepping out on faith. I truly believe in the saying; “The thing that you do the most is the thing that you do the best.” There is nothing that I do more than writing! There are a multitude of people that have dreams and hopes, although they don’t know how to start to make those dreams come true. My advice is just start! Don’t concern yourself with how it’s going to go or how it will end. You will learn as you go. Work on your dreams every day. You are the only person that can make your visions a reality!

Any advice for managing a team?

I believe deeply in edification. If the people on your team have a true belief that you genuinely value their contribution to your company, you have a great chance at being successful. My team is comprised of individuals that are very talented in their fields, Also, they have a true passion for what they do for my company. I have also learned the importance of remaining in my lane. As a business owner, you have to trust that you have placed intelligent and competent people in positions where they can succeed, and then trust your judgement.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

I was born and raised in Chicago, which I loved! Although I knew that I needed to venture to another location to learn more about myself. How would I function in an unfamiliar environment, and how would that experience develop my talents even more? I have always had a desire to start my own company, so I researched locations that are business friendly. I learned that Texas is one of the most business-friendly states. I made the decision to sell or give away everything that I owned, and I loaded my car with my clothes and my computer and relocated to Texas. Since I have arrived, I have started my company, published two books, and have written eight more books that are going to be published soon. Also, I have written three movies, and three television shows. Along with receiving a kidney transplant! All of this has occurred because of my faith in God, along with His grace and mercy! I just believed, and I continue to believe that God has me on the path that He knows is best for me.
