Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Issiah McLean. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Issiah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The essence of allowing a community to power itself is means alot to me and speaks volumes about the kind of interconnected, supportive society we all yearn for. I’ve found that When a community is empowered to uplift itself, it doesn’t just thrive—it flourishes in ways that are authentic, meaningful, and sustainable.
To me, the heart of the “Good Citizen” initiative lies in this very principle: the belief that the power to transform, inspire, and uplift resides within the community itself. It’s a beautiful realization that when we invest in each other, when we provide platforms for voices to be heard, and when we rally around shared visions, we unlock an immeasurable potential for our small businesses to shine.
Youth empowerment is not just about offering resources—it’s about igniting sparks within young souls, reminding them of their inherent worth, and equipping them with the tools to shape their destinies. When we empower our youth, we’re not just investing in individuals; we’re nurturing the collective future of our community.
Similarly, providing a platform for small businesses is more than just economic support. It’s a testament to the stories, dreams, and aspirations of our neighbors. It’s about recognizing that every storefront has a tale, every entrepreneur a journey, and every product a piece of someone’s passion. By amplifying these voices, we foster a sense of belonging and pride, reminding everyone that they are an integral part of the community tapestry.
The synergy between the clothing brand financially powering our 1st annual GoodCitizen’s festival is amazing . It’s not merely about commerce; it’s about culture, celebration, and communal spirit. The festival becomes a reflection of our shared values, aspirations, and joys—a space where everyone, regardless of background, can come together, celebrate, and feel a profound sense of belonging.
For me, the true essence of the “Good Citizen” initiative is this heartfelt belief in community-powered progress. It’s about standing shoulder to shoulder, recognizing the strengths within each of us, and channeling that collective strength to create a brighter, more inclusive future. When a community powers itself, it doesn’t just move forward—it soars. And witnessing that collective soar is the most meaningful, sincere experience I could ever hope for

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am Issiah D. McLean, fervent advocate for youth empowerment, community engagement, and personal growth. My journey into the world of speaking and advocacy began with a simple yet profound realization: the power of stories to bridge gaps, inspire change, and foster understanding.
My accolades as a TEDx speaker, recognized nationally and internationally, are not just badges of honor but testaments to my commitment to the causes I champion. I’ve been privileged to receive awards from esteemed institutions like Fayetteville State University and the commendation from Mayor Mitch Colvin of Fayetteville, NC. However, my most treasured recognition stems from the communities I serve.
In the multifaceted landscape of my roles—from serving as a U.S. Military soldier, a leading ambassador, to my endeavors with Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina—I’ve always been driven by a singular mission: to uplift, inspire, and empower.
The genesis of the Good Citizen initiative is rooted in the belief that by serving selflessly, we can catalyze a ripple effect of positive change. Our mission is built on Selfless service, integrity, and Honor. We don’t just offer services; we offer hope, guidance, and a pathway to self-discovery.
The Good Citizen Youth Centered Interface is a beacon of our commitment to the next generation. We address critical facets of youth development, from fostering resilience in the face of adversity to nurturing self-confidence and instilling the virtues of self-control and discipline. Each aspect is meticulously crafted based on real-world insights and backed by research, as evidenced by the case study conducted at the University of Fayetteville.
My philosophy is deeply influenced by the teachings of mentor Christian Gray, emphasizing the transformative power of love and selfless service. This force has been the cornerstone of my leadership journey—from being Mr. Fayetteville State to serving as Student 1st Sgt in the military and beyond.
What sets me apart is not just my accolades or roles but my unwavering dedication to creating meaningful impact. I am most proud of the lives touched, the minds inspired, and the communities uplifted through the Good Citizen initiative.
To potential clients, followers, and fans: Know that when you engage with Good Citizen, you are not just partnering with a brand; you are joining a movement. A movement fueled by altruism, guided by integrity, and driven by the collective desire to build a brighter, more inclusive future.

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
After every brand drop, our commitment to transparency shines through. We produce detailed video breakdowns, accessible across all our social media platforms. These videos not only provide a clear view of where each dollar is allocated but also narrate the stories behind the impact. This dual approach ensures our supporters see both the quantitative and qualitative outcomes of their contributions, forging a deeper connection and trust.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
One of my foundational approaches is clear communication. I always ensure the team understands our collective vision and goals. But beyond that, I emphasize the importance of individual alignment. I encourage my team members to engage with initiatives like “Good Citizen” only if it aligns with their existing objectives and passions. When individuals are genuinely passionate about their work, their motivation and dedication naturally increase.
