Cierra Fly , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.

My parents exemplified the ability to overcome. I watched my mom overcome having me at 16. I watched my dad overcome becoming addicted to drugs. I avoided both challenges. It’s challenging to be a teen mom, and to watch my mom excel in life despite that motives me. My dad being clean is an example that you can overcome some of life’s hardest obstacles. Those lessons stick with me in all aspects of life, including my career.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

My overall mission is to inspire people to be FLY inside out. It’s is essential that who we are internally reflects faith, love, and youthfulness. That’s my acronym for FLY: faith, love, and youth. In 2010 I launched my girls mentoring nonprofit, FLY Life Inc. My goal was to mentor elementary, middle, and high school girls. Today we are still mentoring girls and partnered with schools. Research shows that, “7 out of 10 girls believe they are not good enough or do not measure up in some way, including their looks, performance in school and relationships with family and friends.” We aim to change this. Through my clothing brand, June Marie Brand, I aim to assist women and girls in styling their identity. Again the mission is to empower people to be FLY inside out. My love for fashion just helps me empower others to look and feel the part externally. June Marie Brand is not your average clothing brand. We make tailored pieces for women and ready to wear. Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?

My mission is to empower others to be FLY inside out. My goal is to develop content and products that teaches and gives people access to be empowered to be fly. I want to dress women influencers from various spheres of influence. I want them to feel invisible and beautiful when wearing June Marie Brand. This drives me. I feel like I can dress the Vice President, female rappers, and the local restaurant owner. This is the goal that drives me.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

I had to unlearn the philosophy of “hustle hard” and “team no sleep”. I think we don’t praise wise hustle over hard hustle enough. There is so much wisdom available to us, if we seek it out. Why do we have to do things the hard way, when their can be a wiser way. I almost died grinding hard and stressing to the point that I became imbalanced and sick. Rest should be an essential part of our success story. When we rest properly, we are more fit to endure the journey and we’re able to take in every moment better.
