Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kristi Kennebrew. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kristi, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you as a business owner?
The most important lesson that I learned in a job was to always have a back up plan! In May 2023 I faced an unfortunate layoff from my company. At first I was devastated, hurt and confused, but I came to an important realization. I had the amazing opportunity to gain so much knowledge, network, and make meaningful connections which lead to me building my personal brand. Thankfully I had Get Me Hired Kristi as a platform where I can continue to do great work and support myself. At the end of the day, it’s important to have something that you can call your own. Something that no one can take away from you, regardless of what is going on around you!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
“Get Me Hired Kristi! Okay I got you!”
I am the founder of the recruitment marketing platform @GetMeHiredKristi, a brand dedicated to bridging the gap between diverse job seekers and entry level tech & transferable roles. I am a passionate advocate for the underrepresented community and have made it a point to assist those struggling to find high wage jobs. As a LinkedIn content creator, I am dedicated to paving the way for others and supporting job seekers looking to make a transition in their careers. With a background in recruiting from Google, Microsoft & Salesforce, I focus on providing the best candidate experience, ensuring job seekers have all the necessary resources for a successful interview process.
Beyond my commitment to career development, I am an avid networker who is always on the lookout for job opportunities and ways to educate women & people of color on how to communicate their self-worth in the workplace. I believe getting into tech roles is a keyway for job seekers to begin the process of building financial freedom and I am committed to helping those from marginalized communities achieve this goal.
Always remember, TRANSFERABLE SKILLS ARE REAL!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
It all started when I walked into my first tech job, met my team, and looked around to see there was no one that looked like me in the room. No one that looked to share the same experiences or background as me. I started to reflect on my own tech journey and how I got to where I was. Then realizing there was a need for access. I noticed a lot of people from my community did not have access to tech roles, recruiter contacts, or just someone to talk to that understand how the process works. The lack of knowledge on how to use professional social media site like LinkedIn was literally holding job seekers back from financial freedom & work-life balance.
I was lucky enough to have someone take a chance on me & teach me the ropes, so I decided to pave the way for others. I branched out and created GetMeHiredKristi, a social media job search platform where candidates have access! They can find entry level roles, jobs where they can use their transferable skills & have a recruiter contact. This was my way of giving back & letting my community know that I will help them with all the resources they need to be successful. Hence the birth of the famous phrase “Get me hired Kristi! Okay, I got you!”
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
The main contributing factor to building my reputation was being authentic! I always think back to the time when I was a job seeker and put myself in others shoes. I’ve been ghosted multiple times by recruiters & received countless rejections after going through rounds of interviews. Being able to share my story and show that my path wasn’t easy, allows me to be relatable to my audience. It helps them to understand there’s no one way to get to your goals in life, but regardless, of which way you take, I’m here to help!
