We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Andoni Aristimuño a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Andoni, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, let’s imagine that you were advising someone who wanted to start something similar to you and they asked you what you would do differently in the startup-process knowing what you know now. How would you respond?
Being back to freelance and starting my own company, having someone in the same position as you is invaluable. Often times friends or family might not understand what you are asking or need. So finding a colleague that you can bounce ideas off of, and make sure you arnt crazy is something I wouldn’t do this without.

Andoni, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve been a filmmaker for a while now, starting out after Highschool with a local production company learning all that I could. While freelancing I worked on a variety of shows for major networks including Hulu, MTV, TLC, and HGTV in a variety of positions from Production Assistant in as many departments as I could to Camera Operator.
When I moved to Pittsburgh I took a staff position as an editor and refined my skill in story and post-production. After about 2 years of that I am now venturing out on my own starting a production company, which has been a distant dream for me. Its now been almost a year, and the path of finding my own vision, style and clientele had been quite a pleasure.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Telling peoples stories and learning new things is always the best part of the video creation process. Often times I am called upon to create something for a topic or subject I know nothing about. This provides a unique opportunity to always be asking questions and learning more.

If you have multiple revenue streams in your business, would you mind opening up about what those streams are and how they fit together?
Since video production requires lots of expensive gear, that often changes on a yearly basis, or even quarterly. I run a small rental service providing ready made kits that serve a variety of purposes. Our current FX3 kit has been very lucrative, especially riding the wave of the movie “The Creator” which was shot on the very same camera.
