We were lucky to catch up with Tabitha Rice recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tabitha , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
In 2020, during the height of Covid, I took one of the biggest steps of my life by moving from Marietta, GA to Albany, GA to follow my heart. While living here in Albany I wanted to take a leap of faith and my passion for lashing more seriously by starting a Lash business here in my new “home” town.
I was so nervous, scared, and at times truly doubted myself. I allowed my fear of the unknown to bring fear into my plan. With the encouragement and support of my partner I swallowed that fear and marketed myself as hard as I could on all social media platforms. Before I knew it women I have never met in my life were scheduling appointments with me to do their lash extensions.
I was in my zone with each woman who graced me with their presence and supported my vision. I honed in one my skills of lashing and only got better. Fast-forward to today I still have those same clients coming to me today. These ladies have grown into more than clients. They have become my family. I have watched my clients graduate, get engaged, married, start families and more.
I want my story to help other mothers, wives, women and men to walk on faith and pursue that new business idea you may have cooking. Don’t let the naysayers or your own fear stop you from achieving your goals. I believe in you.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I loved getting my lash extensions done and the instant confidence level I received after every lash appointment was like no other! I was talking to my lash tech and she really piqued my interest in learning more about lash extensions, so I paid for a private lash course which lasted about 3 days almost 9 years ago.
I was horrible at first. My lash sets were bulky and heavy. However, I was determined to get better. I practiced on who would let me- finding people to lay for 4-6 hours, yes I was that slow, was hard! As I practiced I got faster and faster. My lash sets improved and my skills got better.
I specialize in Natural healthy length lash extension sets for my clients. I love educating the community and my clients on how to take care of their natural lashes as well as their lash extension sets. My lash sets are cost friendly for all budgets, I believe in building confidence within any community not just one.
My products are animal cruelty free by verified vendors, I maintain current on all new education material and take annual trainings with reputable credentialed lash experts in the field to continue to provide the best for my clients and my business.
How did you build your audience on social media?
As an Introvert working in the beauty industry and having to get out there to the world to find your clients is so nerve wrecking and scary.
However, social media helped in so many ways! I made sure to take different angle photos, videos, add music to my videos to help with drawing in people. My booking site has text and email marketing so I utilize that once a month by sending my clients special deals and keeping them abreast of any changes with products, schedule times etc.
I utilized flyers and business cards as well to market my lash business and even networked with other stylists within my community to try to gain more clients.
Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
When I started my business here in my new relocated home town, I had to think of catchy phrases to use for lashing.
I wanted to think of fun ways to help my clients afford lash extensions, as they service is a luxury service and can be expensive to some. I came up with Wispy Wednesdays, bring a friend Friday, freestyle Fridays, fall into love during Valentine’s Day, and more.
These deals helped my clients in ways of being able to have a self care day for themselves without breaking the bank. They were a hit. Even if I only see some clients during these deals or specials it’s still a love because they chose me out of 27 other technicians that are now in my area since I moved here in 2020.
