Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Charis Putmon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Charis, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear stories from your time in school/training/etc.
My training and experience was intense. Nursing school was definitely not for the faint in heart. I trained at Grady Hospital a level 1 trauma hospital in Atlanta Ga in their Surgical trauma ICU. I have been a Trauma ICU nurse for 8 years now. I took a few acting classes at Mann Robinson Studios in Atlanta Ga which was really fun. I never went to school for music I have just always been musically inclined and raised in the church which has been so monumental for me with my music.
Charis, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have always loved people and loved helping people so it was no surprise to me that I ended up being a nurse. However I have always wanted to be an actress since I was a little girl. As far as getting started with content creating and influencing, I started off promoting my music on my social platforms and would do a few TikToks and reels here and there to promote my music. From there I started remaking scenes from movies and from there the rest is history. Thus far I have been in 2 movies and 1 series to date. I have been a content creator and influencer for 2 years now and have collaborated with many major brands including Nivea and Sovereign brands. I absolutely love creating content and making people laugh. I love it so much I would literally do it for free lol. As a nurse I won ServPro’s first responder of the year award for 2023 after a video of me performing the Heimlich maneuver on a little boy that was choking went viral on TikTok. That event also provided the opportunity to be featured on WSB-2, GMA and Insider Edition. It has been such a great unexpected ride thus far and I am so excited to see what the future holds.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Although I love people so much a lesson I had to unlearn is being a people pleaser. I came to a point where I was so drained from trying to make everyone else happy without considering my own personal needs. I picked up this toxic trait being raised in a household with Baby Boomer parents with unrealistic expectations. Always feeling a need to impress and exude perfection sort of embedded itself into my personality. As time when on I realized living that way was very unhealthy to my well being and I started doing the necessary work to unlearn those things.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Being relatable and my odd sense of humor has really done so much for my image and brand overall. People are very accepting to relatable content. I also feel being compassionate and empathetic as well as engaging with my community has helped me grow so much. Lastly always carrying a spirit of humility has done wonders for me as well.
