Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to GIORGIA CAVICCHIOLI. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi GIORGIA, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I am producing my first short film, Serial Dater, based on my own struggle going on a bunch of dates trying to find the love of my life. I came up with the idea after realizing that my friends used to be so entertained with my love life and the funny stories about the horrible dates I had. The film is a comedy that talks about self love and how we don’t need to find a match to be happy, that we are enough.
GIORGIA, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Art has been part of my life since a very young age. When I was a child, I used to be the “show off” of the family. I used to create plays, shows and performances with my sister and the adults of the family needed to watch us performing at the living room. Around the age of 10 I entered a Theater group and around the same age I started writing my first books about all the fantastic worlds I had on my kid’s mind. I was part of a lot of plays in São Paulo, Brazil, during my childhood and as a teenager. And being on the stage was the best feeling ever for the weird child I was. I used to feel so good about it! It was so much fun. When I needed to pick up a profession to follow, around the age of 18, I was afraid of taking the leap of faith and persue the acting career. In Brazil is really hard to make a living being an actor. So, I entered journalism school and worked in the area reporting politics and social security for more than 10 years. But, I always had my childhood dream talking to me in the back of my mind. So I kept saving money for years and years until I was ready to come to LA and start pursuing my dream. I came to LA for the first time in 2022 to study acting at NYFA, the New York Film Academy, for one month. And it was so great to be around creative people again. I felt like I used to feel when I was a kid. When I went back to Brazil I knew I needed to come back, that my journey in the US wasn’t finished. So I came back in 2023 to take the acting at UCLA. I finished my course in December and got my OPT to be able to put in practice all the lessons I learned during 2023. I am already working in the business and I can’t wait for 2024!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I think I have a very spiritual connection with art in general. Film, books, plays, music, can change people’s stories. Art can heal in a very deep way. It can heal the artists, the audience and the society in general. Art makes the world better and the burden of existence less miserable. And I wanna be part of this change in the world. I wanna make the world a better place for all.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I had always have to fight against my biggest enemy: my mental health and my inner saboteur. When I was 12 I had to struggle with anorexia and depression. I was so skinny that my psychiatrist asked me if I wanted to die. And I realized that I didn’t. That I had a lot to live. After that, I needed to deal with my anxiety. The attacks started to be so strong that I had moments when I thought I wouldn’t be able to survive the day. But I did and I am still doing it. I still take pills for my anxiety, but I am sure I will be able to get off them soon, as I did with the anorexia and depression. But things take the time they need to take. I don’t need to rush, because I will survive. I always do.
