We were lucky to catch up with Dr. Selena Smith recently and have shared our conversation below.

Dr. Selena, appreciate you joining us today. Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.

Living Legacy Inc. wants to spread our message of hope and compassion. Living Legacy Inc. name was derived from a simple concept. We serve a living God who commissioned us to fulfill his legacy as it relates to Hebrews 13-16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. We believe that a single action can make a difference in the community and that collective action can greatly impact the world. Through advocacy and outreach activities, our team works tirelessly each day to contribute their part to the greater good. Living Legacy offers individual and family counseling, substance abuse evaluations, and other prevention services. Living Legacy recognizes that the issue of Mental Health, Substance Abuse, Domestic Violence, and Homelessness is a Reality. It is a reality not only for adults but for children and adolescents as well. The organization offers a range of services in the areas of support groups, workshops/training, counseling, housing, and community referrals. Our goal is to offer a Christ-centered approach as well as form solid community partnerships with faith-based organizations, area churches, and other community-based initiatives. By forming these partnerships and offering the services that are needed, men and women will be equipped to enter back into society with sustainability.
Here at Living Legacy Inc., we know that sometimes all it takes to change the world is a little support. Since our grassroots founding in 2004, we have been determined to make an impact. We formally incorporated in 2009, with the core of our efforts being to bring our team’s fresh ideas and passion to the range of activities we’re involved in. Through all of our endeavors, we hope to display the conviction behind our beliefs.

Dr. Selena, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

As Mahatma Gandhi said, “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” Living Legacy Inc. knows that it takes more than the company being unique, it takes people that care and tailored approaches to provide holistic care. Living Legacy Inc. believes in an ongoing exploration of the company’s vision and mission to ensure that services are being provided to those who need it the most. Re-evaluation of the specific vision also aids in the process of the brand maintaining a space in the marketplace.
Living Legacy Inc. prides itself on staff that provide warm and engaging customer service. We want people to feel heard and seen. It is important to us to preserve someone’s dignity, while also supporting them on the journey to self-awareness and healing.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?

Founding Living Legacy Inc. has been demanding, but a privileged and rewarding journey. Managing this organization has allowed exoneration by creating a safe space for individuals to connect with the most authentic version of themselves. The development of Living Legacy Inc. has forged an opportunity to bridge the gap between consumers and treatment. One of the intentions of the company was to contribute to the field of mental health while staying true to the community that we serve. Therefore, it has been a profound and reminiscent experience. Engaging with others to share their trials, accomplishments, and life-altering perspectives that reinforce core values, principles, and alternative methods to increase sustainability is the epitome of being committed and tethered to something bigger than you, that contributes to the greater good. I have seen people reunite with their children and families, start new careers, finish their education, become advocates, and simply reclaim their lives. It has been an honor to witness others shift their mindsets from mere Existing to actively Living productive lives. The uniqueness of the business has empowered and shaped my professional and personal life, by allowing me to shine my light in dark places. It has also allowed me to live out the vision and values day to day and remain accountable to the mission. At the end of the day, I have humbly played a vital role in someone’s life to encourage them to no longer be afraid, but brave. I love the fact that I have been trusted to plant seeds and offer others the tools needed to develop healthy boundaries and relationships, increase self-awareness, and start the path to recovery.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

Living Legacy Inc. is aware that services need to provide a connected experience to our clients, which means customer engagement needs to be sound. Living Legacy Inc. works to stay informed about the evolving needs of clients, and build integrity, and personalized care. Therefore, operations, staff structure, and interactive technology work together to offer clients a way to stay connected and share feedback.

During the current state of the world, it can be challenging for people to remain optimistic and encouraged. Unfortunately, we live in a world that faces tragedy or tumultuous events daily. Individuals turn to substance abuse in an attempt to cope with life stressors. Each of us can recall situations in which we or someone close to us was personally affected by some trauma, hardship, homelessness, physical or sexual abuse, grief/loss, or addiction. Those incidents seem to be unfair and out of control. Living Legacy Inc. believes that it is pivotal that we stay aware of these issues and provide programs necessary for addressing these events, that people face within the community and work to provide resources to assist them in recovering to lead healthy lives. Living Legacy Inc. possesses the training and experience to help the community.
