We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Yasemin Rose a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Yasemin, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
Definitely. Especially in this business. I started with acting at 22 years old. That is pretty late regarding the fact I have always wanted to become an actress as a child.
You know, people say it’s never to late to start with acting- which is in fact true. But I just feel like time is running. I used to always compare myself with big actors, that were able to play so many cool characters. But that thinking was not healthy at all, so I worked on that. I realized that everyone has their own unique path and that is the beautiful thing. Everything with time.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Sure, I work in an office, I‘m modeling, I‘m a waitress and I‘m acting. But this article focuses on my acting journey.
Acting is my passion. Everything about it. I love to build characters, embody the characters, being on set, working with people that share the same passion…
I love how magical movies are. You forget about your own environment and find yourself in a different world.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
There are actually 2 movies/series that gave me the last push.
The first one is V for Vendetta. It’s crazy how amazingly done this movie is. From the acting to the cinematography. Everything about it. Natalie Portman did such an incredible job. I’d love to know her character building process! Hugo Weaving did such an amazing job as well. He is the acting that plays „V“. It is mindblowing, how he is able to portray so many emotions, without showing his face, without showing any skin. You don’t see anything, but you can feel it.
The other one is Stranger Things. This series did more to me than I thought it would. The storytelling is what got me there. How the writers were able to create such an complex world. As you watch you notice that everything is connected. I wish I could watch all the seasons again for the first time, to feel that thrill again. Next to that, the acting – especially in season 4 – is absolutely amazing. Two outstanding actors are Millie Bobby Brown and Jamie Campbell Bower. Wow, they left me speechless.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I want to be part of the storytelling. People find comfort in film. Some people, including me, sometimes flee into another reality when they want to have an escape from their own. I want to be someones comfort character. This sounds weird at first I know. But I remember when I went trough dark times, I used to have favorite movies/series that helped me through it. Especially some characters which made me feel safe. I want to help them to go through, whatever they are going through.
