We recently connected with Ka’Nita Glover and have shared our conversation below.
Ka’Nita, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about serving the underserved.
It’s funny how we as individuals can look at the same thing and have multiple outcomes of what we are seeing. I find beauty, curiosity, and acceptance in that. When I think of “serving the underserved” i immediately think about my passion for creating beauty and wellness in beverage. I immediately think about my clients and their guest who are pregnant, in recovery, taking a break, designated to drive safe, don’t consume alcohol or just don’t feel like drinking. I consider this demographic to be under served and under valued. As Beverage Director of The Bar Bank, we have a strong focus on mental health, healthy relationships, holistic healing, and cultural experiences related to food, beverage, and celebrations on a global spectrum. We connect through food and beverage. We celebrate with it! A true bar service understands everyone comes to us when thirsty not just for cocktails or a beer. I believe their is a huge misconception about my purpose and core values in regards to alcohol consumption. I am here to create safe spaces. It is the formula to creating memorable evenings for clients. The reality is, people have negative relationships with alcohol. Sometimes I represent that negative experience for them. The truth could not be more opposite. I am hired to control the amount of alcohol guest are consuming within a specific time frame. I am legally liable to ensure your loved ones make it back to their families safe. I am hired to stop the spread of diseases like COVID 19. I am hired to protect responsible party goers from those who abuse alcohol. I have your back. I am protecting everyone from any possibility of danger to my highest ability. I make sure to have beautiful mocktails available, activated charcoal options to avoid hangovers. Mocktails should be just as balanced and delicious as a hand crafted mocktail. Guest should feel comfortable going out without feeling obligated to consume. They should have beautifully made delicious options to select from. And lastly, the deserve to be served that beverage from a warm individual with a comforting smile.

Ka’Nita, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I attended Fashion Institute for Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles and Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson. I worked as an Regional Account Executive in Apparel Industry for 8 years. I went from corporate to fine dining when I moved to South Beach Miami. I took a bartending course and landed a job at a Brazilian churrascaria. I moved back to San Diego after getting robbed by a roommate and being without a secure home. I became a union bartender at Del Mar racetrack.
I now am the Beverage Director and creator of my own beverage catering and mixology company. We offer bar services and workshops to corporate offices, weddings, and birthdays. We also are relaunching our online gift shop and members only club.
Our goal is to gain and maintain more corporate clientele, boost sales and exposure to online store, increase followers on instagram, connect with investors.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
It’s not easy for some of us to ask for help. For whatever reason childhood experiences still influence our decision making as adults both negative and positive. Resilience is bouncing back from some thing, person, or place that could have broken you. Trusting my comfort levels and instincts to know when they are not serving my greatest good and to disengage. The beauty of being vulnerable in the presence of people who are qualified enough for me to put my trust in them. Surrendering and trusting them to have the companies best interest in mind. I’m learning this discernment. I am bumping my head along the way with the main goal being my clients best interest. I am not alone at same time I cannot accept anyones help. I’m technically not a training facility so I need experienced help that can be trusted to take things off my plate with compromising quality. Not just that…. But attracting that type of help. So many obstacles yet here I am with solid, dependable, consistent help. They love what they do and have 10 years plus in industry. Talk about breath of fresh air! I am proud of bouncing back from trying to doing it all myself to the point it was negatively effecting my personal life. I am proud for letting go of “help” that really extracted and drained me even more. I’m proud of me for allowing those who have paid their dues take the wheel.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I’m in the get it done business. Preferably with ease, flow, harmony, and reciprocity. In hindsight, I want to do more or better than just accomplishing the task efficiently. I want to be present. I want to milk moments for all I can. I want to slow down to connect longer. Backstory is……. I cross path with incredible humans (and pets lol). Sometimes I’m moving to fast or to much in business mode I miss out on the human side of the day. The beauty of the space, the stories behind the reasons I am crossing paths with amazing people.
