We were lucky to catch up with Juliet Parisi recently and have shared our conversation below.
Juliet, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I wish I would have started my creative art business sooner. I have always loved making art and drawing all over my work & notes. Having 2 kids now makes having a full-time art business much more difficult, as most art opportunities are on the weekends. This means I don’t get to spend much time with my family as I want to. Additionally, if I were to have started my business sooner, I would have been up and running before Covid hit. Having had a solid business model prior to Covid would have helped with budgeting, annual show planning, and much more.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am originally from the San Francisco bay area and have now lived in the Midwest for about 15 years. What I feel sets my brand, and art, apart from the rest I have found here in Minneapolis, is my use of vibrate colors and untamed movements of alcohol inks. My work is reminiscent of Ralph Stedman, while keeping my own personal twist of nature in my pieces. My brand is called Beauty Through Chaos, and I feel we are all trying to capture just a little sliver of beauty in our chaotic world to hold on to. And that is also what my art brings to the viewer, a moment of beauty through all the chaos.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I try to make recycling, upcycling, and sustainably a part of my creative practice as much as I can. There is far too much consumption and waste in this world, and we are quickly running out of space. There is so much beauty to be found in the discarded…so why not put it back in the limelight. I have several pieces made from reused theater walls and parts, recycled house paint, re-painted canvases from thrift stores, or found object from the street. The overall mission in life is to help save the planet, as it is the only one we’ve got.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding thing as an artist is seeing little kids get so excited when they see my art. I use very bright colors in my work, and kids just love it. I truly enjoy talking with children about the art they make, and hearing their dreams of becoming an artist one day. I ask them what they like to create and it seems like they could talk for hours, and it fills me with joy. I don’t care if their adult doesn’t purchase anything from me, the conversation with the child was well worth it. The chats always end the same way, I tell the little one, “don’t let anyone tell you that you are not an artist. Because you are an artist and your art can change the world.”
