Mallory, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you as a business owner?
In a world driven by individual achievements and personal success, my journey working on staff at my local church has been a transformative experience, revealing the profound impact of collective effort and selfless service. Surrounded by a dedicated team of 40 plus volunteers, together, we undertook the mission of serving hundreds of students from our community each week. Through this incredible journey, I learned the most important lesson at that job that has helped me as a business owner and that is the true heartbeat of any organization lies not in its programs or structures, but in the people who come together to serve a common purpose.
The Power of Unity:
From the very beginning, it became evident that our success as a team was not determined by the size of our individual contributions but by the strength of our unity. Each volunteer, regardless of their role, brought a unique set of skills, passion, and dedication to the table. It was this diversity that enriched our service and allowed us to connect with the community in ways we never thought possible.
One of the key lessons I learned was that an organization is not just a sum of its parts; it is the people within it who breathe life into its mission. I became a travel advisor just before a global pandemic in 2020 and that as you know, brought about a host of challenges and obstacles.
From ever-changing protocols and requirements for travel to industry-wide shut-downs, the travel industry took a major hit, and travel advisors were on the front lines assisting clients with their reservations, cancellations, and re-bookings.
I think if you can make it through that, you can make it through anything!
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Yes! The Go Giver book by Bob Burg and John David Mann. There are four books in this series and they helped me to learn to effectively communicate my value and discover how much more fun, less stressful, and more profitable my business can be! I can’t recommend them enough!
