We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Andrea Entz a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Andrea, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I have many different facets of my work – podcast management, voice acting, and stand up comedy. I love to call myself a “professional extrovert” because what all these areas have in common are communication, expression, and connection. And there’s almost nothing more important to me than our human right and deep desire to connect and express. It’s at the core of everything we do.
So while part of my business, the performance, is for my own fulfillment of these needs, I’ve expanded into the podcast space to help other people, especially women, fulfill their desire for communication, expression, and connection. We all have an inherent right to share our story, our voice, and our ideas.
I love amplifying the voices of women through podcasts. I love women who “talk too much” and my mission is to create a space where they can talk even more and even louder into a microphone. Especially so many of these incredibly creative entrepreneurs I’ve met – they have such great ideas and products and businesses that more people NEED to hear about! And podcasts are such an excellent tool to do just that.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started out in theatre and quickly found stand up comedy, followed closely by voice acting. When I started getting more serious about my life as a performer, I realized I needed a bit more flexibility in my life to be able to attend auditions. That’s when I found virtual assisting and social media management. I worked for a few years supporting incredible entrepreneurs and other voice actors.
One of my clients had her own podcast and had hired a podcast manager. I remember being so intrigued by that and wished I was doing the work he was doing, audio editing, rather than social media, which was really burning me out. I knew then that podcast management was something on the horizon for me. Down the line, I reached out to that manager and he directed me to Lauren Wrighton’s podcast manager program, where I learned how to do the dang thing! And I shifted out of social media very shortly after that.
Also, I was already editing so much of my own audio almost every day as a voice actor. Half the battle was already accounted for. And I LOVE editing my own audio and now the audio for my clients. It’s like a puzzle for me. The bonus is, every once in awhile, I have a client who wants a different voice then her own for her show intro and boom, there I am, professional voice actor with my recording booth ready to get her some awesome clean audio.
I would love for potential clients to know that I strongly believe in imperfect action. You do not need a perfect space or, honestly, even a professional mic to start your pod and share your voice. Yeah, I’m gonna help you make your pod sound as great as possible and down the line we’ll get you the best mic in the biz, but we aren’t going to let this “perfect podcast” idea hold you back from starting your show or recording your new episode.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I especially love Rachel Rodgers’ book “We Should All Be Millionaires: A Woman’s Guide to Earning More, Building Wealth, and Gaining Economic Power.” The way she navigated the money conversation was really helpful to me to let go of the shame around money, raise my rates, and say them confidently.
I’m also currently working through the “You are a Badass” books. There’s one on overall mindset and one specifically on money mindset.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Before I share my answer to this I want to say that I approach everything in my life as “human first” so sometimes these strategies work for me and sometimes I just have to meet myself where I’m at. (AKA I don’t post as much as I “should” and that’s okay!)
And another thing – followers are not everything. Relationships over followers! You don’t need 10k followers to make sales.
But here’s what I’ve done:
-Posting reels consistently
-Commenting on the stories and posts of my ideal clients
-Staying active and personal in the stories
-NOT jumping straight to sales in the DMs. Actually getting to know people
