We recently connected with Solaris and have shared our conversation below.

Solaris, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How’s you first get into your field – what was your first job in this field?

I’m so passionate about being a psychic astrologer but back in 2005 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida – it wasn’t a very common profession. So even though I was very young and had no clue how to start, I still had my heart set on doing this professionally and helping people with their love lives. I tried a lot of different things to try to get the word out there to get a reading from me including having my friends and I walk up and down Lincoln Road in South Beach in Miami wearing bikinis and passing out my business cards with fairies on them! It didn’t work and I felt so weird doing it. I had no marketing experience and didn’t really know what to do so I got a reading from a trance channeler who was very good. I asked him how can I communicate with my angels for guidance and he told me to declare out loud a symbol that I want my angels to use to let me know that they are with me and every time that I see that symbol, to trust it and to follow it. So I chose the symbol of a heart and went about my life. A few days later, I went into Michaels to buy a jewelry case because I made some spiritual earrings to display at an art show. I saw a woman in the beads section and she was wearing a shirt with a big heart on it. I took that as a sign from my angels to talk to her. So I made small talk with her and then we parted ways. After I bought the beads, I realized that I had forgotten the jewelry case that I had originally gone in there for… I was very poor back then and I didn’t think that I could afford to buy the jewelry case since I had just bought beads but I decided to think positive and take a leap of faith. When I was in line about to pay for the jewelry case, I saw the same woman from earlier in line behind me. We made small talk about the beads we liked and I noticed that hers happened to be rainbow colored. She mentioned that they were the color of chakras and I knew she was metaphysical too, which is rather rare in South Florida. So I told her that I was showcasing my earrings in an art show in a spiritual store a few towns over and invited her to the show. We talked about astrology and told her that I was an astrologer. She happened to be a cashier for a new age store that needed an astrologer because theirs had to quit a few days ago. It was so exciting. I always remember that day and feel like if I hadn’t trusted my intuition of following the hearts or walked away without going back inside, my whole life would have been different. Fortunately that led to so many opportunities including my eventual move to Los Angeles… My life consists of a lot of those moments… where I’m given the choice to move forward or go back. I feel really lucky that my life has worked out so well.

Solaris, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

So I’ve been a psychic astrologer and tarot card reader since 2005 and a trauma therapist for the past 7 years.

I’ve always been interested in astrology and metaphysics my whole life but in 2005, I got tutored in astrology by this amazing psychic Josephine Alvarez. I realized that I had basically a photographic memory for it and when I was told a birthday, it opened my psychic channel and I got a download of information. At the time, I wanted to be able to understand love and relationships better and help my friends and I with finding better men. I had gone through a history of abusive relationships myself and it was a relief to be able to see in an astrology chart if someone is abusive and how to screen for that. When you go through trauma, it’s a coping skill to want to increase your odds of safety any way that you can. Plus, we always wanted to know what they were thinking and feeling for us and how to improve the relationship. A few years later, I learned the tarot cards in a deeper way and was able to understand the connection they had to astrology and the timing of when things would happen. It was also so fascinating to learn that you can see your past lives in your chart and what your past lives were with the people that you love.

I worked at a few New Age stores in Florida and then moved to Los Angeles. Here, I worked for the Bodhi Tree, Crystal Matrix and Mystic Journey. I also had a variety of radio shows doing readings on the air for years with Zodiac Girls on CBS and LA Talk Radio (and others), giving monthly horoscopes, talked about astrology on various TV Shows and was a columnist for BE! Magazine out of Beverly Hills and Fae Magazine based out of the United Kingdom.

At some point, I wanted to see if I could help people heal in an even deeper way so I decided to go back to Grad School and become a trauma therapist. Partly, it was my own experiences enduring different abusive relationships and partly it was being in therapy for years and seeing how life transformational it was for me – I wanted to help people heal the same way. Now I specialize in helping women heal from rape, sexual assault and abusive relationship trauma as well as working for the cancer center weSPARK where I help people who have cancer, their caregivers, their children and other family members.

Two years ago, I created my Youtube channel (Solaris Fairy Astrology and Tarot) to help people in their romantic relationships. They are Pick A Card Reading format where you pick a pile that you are drawn to and that pile is the pile you watch to answer your romantic questions.

Also, something that I do for semi-professionally and partly for fun is writing new age love songs (Solaris J’aime), singing and photography. At the moment, I’m doing a huge project where I’m creating my own tarot deck from black and white photography that I develop in the darkroom turning people who I love most in my life into main characters in the deck.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?

If you had told me as a kid that I was going to grow up and become a psychic one day, I would have thought that was the coolest thing in the world. If I knew at the time that there was psychic college (like the mystery schools), I totally would have gone to them.

Honestly, I feel such a deep connection to this work. I like being a safe space where people can receive nurturing. I know that it’s my life purpose and it’s been a hard road. I lived in poverty for a long time and struggled a lot but eventually it all worked out. I know that I have been luckier than most. A few times I even had to put it on pause because in the beginning it wasn’t possible to pay my bills this way. So I wouldn’t recommend being an entrepreneur to everyone. Most people need the stability that a 9-5 job provides, the benefits and the security. But for me, I couldn’t squish my soul down into something conventional. It made me feel like that was the wrong path for me in every fiber of my being. And also, I can’t really stop channeling psychic messages even if I wanted to… it’s not like I can just stop helping people. I can’t shut it off so I embrace it. Plus, I love it.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?

I think it’s been word of mouth. If you are very good at what you do, people will tell others. And if you aren’t good at what you do, people will tell others. For me personally, people telling their friends and family their experiences and then having them come to me for help too … that is more effective than any ad or being on any show.

Also, working as a hybrid helps so much – where part of my business is self-employment (having my own practice etc) and the other half works through locations (stores, organizations, entertainment like radio/tv etc.) That helps so much because the locations promote me also. It’s also word of mouth. If you are thinking about starting your own business, know that it takes a village and it’s ok to utilize your resources because you will help them back in return (but genuinely from your heart.) People always can tell when you are helping someone from your heart.
