Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kelsey Drew. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Kelsey thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My mission as a motherhood photographer is to normalize the beauty and the struggles we go through while pregnant and during post-partum and to help new parents have Permanent memories of this precious time. When I chose to specialize in motherhood photography, I was still learning how to love myself again. I was fighting through some tough depression and insecurity. When I had my maternity photos done, I felt so beautiful, so confident, and so excited for what was to come. I want every mother I come across to feel the same.
On a different note, time moves so much faster once your little bundle of joy arrives. The moments fade as the long nights and endless diaper changes chug on by. I remember wanting to save every detail of my beautiful bump. Once my little one arrived, I saw for the very first time the magical little face I had created, and I wanted to remember every detail. Their details change so quickly, literally the day after birth their features have already changed!
Maternity, Birth, and Fresh 48 photographer are just so important.
Because one day not too far in the future once you are holding your little bundle of joy these memories will fade. The bump, the kicks, the Headbutts to the bladder… all of it.
Once they are here there is nothing better than Capturing the wrinkles, the puffy little face, and the tiny details that will not be there next month.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My journey as a photographer started when I was only 18 years old. I have always had an artistic outlook on everything things most find ordinary. Around the age of 20 I purchased a little canon rebel and started practicing on just nature, that was my focus for a time. Soon after I turned to families, weddings, maternity, and just about everything else. I wasn’t until I gave birth to my little one that I realized I wanted to specialize in only motherhood photography. I realized that I could help other mothers feel not only confident and beautiful but feel secure knowing they have artwork that will last a lifetime.
Now I offer Maternity and Fresh 48 mostly, I also offer family, and lifestyle newborn photography as well. I will soon be offering birth photography to my clients. I feel that the birth of your child is the turning point in your journey. I am so proud that I have had the opportunity to work with so many different families and deliver the best quality memories to them.
My business is based around the client. What would give you the perfect session? Is it the free client closet I offer or the guides to help you choose that perfect outfit while rocking your own style?
You have the option to upgrade your gallery, buy a beautiful custom photobook, buy prints, ornaments, or a personalized wooden box to keep your beautiful art safe in.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
I’d say Google brings in a large chunk of my clientele. Learning about SEO yeah and learning about how to run a proper website has helped.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
A large part of building a solid reputation is being consistent and generally a kind person.
