Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kevin Tratasta. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Kevin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
It was an incredible journey with the band I play with named “Tom Sandoval and The Most Extras.” Touring the USA was a dream come true. I play lead guitar in the band. The camaraderie within the band and the energy of the performances made every moment memorable. Meeting new people and playing in diverse venues enriched my musical journey.
The highlight of the tour was the people—fans, fellow musicians, and the incredible individuals we met at each stop. Their passion for music fueled our performances and added a unique flavor to each show. From the vibrant scenes of cities like New York to the laid-back vibes of the West Coast, every place had something special to offer.
The learning experience was invaluable. Adapting to different crowds, understanding regional musical preferences, and the logistics of a tour sharpened my skills both as a musician and as a person. It wasn’t just about playing guitar; it was about connecting with people through music.
Overall, the USA tour with “Tom Sandoval and The Most Extras” was a kaleidoscope of experiences that will stay with me forever. The memories forged on the road have become a source of inspiration for my future musical endeavors.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hailing from Jakarta, Indonesia, my journey in pursuit of a musical career led me to the vibrant city of Los Angeles. Raised amidst the bustling energy of Jakarta, my musical roots were nurtured by the dynamic sounds of rock. The resonant melodies of Coldplay, the experimental brilliance of Muse, the soulful tunes of John Mayer, and the avant-garde creations of Radiohead have collectively shaped my musical identity. These iconic artists serve as not just influences but as guiding lights, steering my creative endeavors. Their diverse styles have become the palette from which I draw inspiration, infusing my own musical expression with a rich blend of genres. Moving to Los Angeles marked a significant chapter in this musical odyssey, where I continue to weave my narrative, combining the echoes of my Indonesian upbringing with the boundless opportunities of the City of Angels.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
In the realm of the music industry, the emphasis extends far beyond mere instrumental prowess or academic grades in music school. Rather, the prevailing truth is that networking stands as the linchpin for survival and success. The industry thrives on connections, relationships, and the ability to navigate a complex web of professionals. While technical proficiency undoubtedly holds its place, it is often eclipsed by the power of who you know and the relationships you cultivate. Networking becomes the main conduit for opportunities, collaborations, and career advancements. It’s a landscape where personal connections can open doors that skill alone might not. Understanding this reality underscores the importance of building a robust network, engaging with peers, mentors, and industry insiders. In essence, it’s not just about playing the notes; it’s about striking the right chords with the people who shape the musical landscape.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My primary objective within the music industry reflects a pragmatic and ambitious approach. Striving for a stable income while continuously elevating your skills, workflow, and gear demonstrates a commitment to both financial sustainability and artistic growth. Achieving stability in the dynamic music industry requires a multifaceted strategy, from cultivating diverse income streams to staying attuned to market trends.
The dedication to upgrading your skills, workflow, and gear is a testament to your understanding of the industry’s ever-evolving nature. This adaptability not only enhances your artistic capabilities but also positions you as a valuable contributor in an environment where innovation and staying current are paramount.
Balancing financial stability with a commitment to personal and professional development is a holistic approach that bodes well for a lasting and fulfilling career in the music industry. By aligning your goals with a resilient mindset and a proactive approach to learning and innovation, you’re poised to navigate the challenges and opportunities that come your way.
