We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful John Ingari. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with John below.
John, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of the toughest things about entrepreneurship is that there is almost always unexpected problems that come up – problems that you often can’t read about in advance, can’t prepare for, etc. Have you had such and experience and if so, can you tell us the story of one of those unexpected problems you’ve encountered?
Surfers want to support their local shaper but many shops will not set up their bread and butter business to make this a reality. Paying the slight cost difference for a locally made board with top quality is slowly dying as many shops are not taking the time to educate their customers on these differences in Sourcing, cost, and quality but rather offering a “sale” on cheaper lower quality over sea imports that do nothing for the local shaping talent that progressed the sport to what it is today. We do our best to facilitate this education and prefer customer get to make their own choice on how to spend their money.
John, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Passionate in the surf industry and in serving the community; here at Gnarwall we are different than most shops. With a main goal of fitting the right boards with the right riders, we will not be quick to upsell in the wrong direction, but stoked to help you through all the decision making of selecting the perfect board.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Funding the start up of Gnarwall surf shop came from my years of saving my income from my Biomedical engineering position.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Being more helpful and knowledgeable about the products we offer rather than having a high pressure sales environment is helping to build our reputation.
