We recently connected with Shereese Hameed-Muhammad and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Shereese thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
When I started my practice I prepared myself and my family for the possibility of a lifestyle change because money would be tight at first. I left a thriving career in banking to become an entrepreneur so I was used to stability and a structured life. One challenge I faced was balancing my time with work and home life because as an entrepreneur it can all bleed together. The saying that you leave your 9 to 5 job to work 24/7 is the truth! I would have compartmentalized my work life better so that there was a clear “off” time. I would have also partnered with like minded practitioners earlier on and I would have invested in learning technological advancements to enhance my ability to reach more people with less footwork. My service to young people starting their own business is…Don’t reinvent the wheel. Work smarter, not harder. There is no shame in collaboration just choose your business relationships wisely.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

She is armed with skills in creating winning systems and templates that would in turn, grow a company to greater success and excellence. During my tenure, I was able to hone my natural abilities of helping people to self-govern through the many vicissitudes of their personal, and work life. This would lay the foundation from which I would cultivate my natural gifts, and expand my knowledge base to become a successful entrepreneur. From this hard-work, and dedication, Peace For Your Pieces Integrative Wellness would be built. I have a true passion to help others find peace, and balance in their lives in a way that is unique and powerful for the individual. How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Originally I spent 14 years in the banking industry going from one department to the next “cleaning house”. My role was in management and I would reevaluate the procedures, break the systems and make them more efficient and successful for future growth of the department. At any point in time I could have up to 30 plus people reporting to me. My “pivot in business is when I decided to leave that career and establish my wellness company. Peace for Your Pieces was born out of my work with the staff and my desire to do more for the people under my charge. I took their life struggles very seriously not only because it affected their work but also because they were human beings who needed help. At one point in time 5 people out of my 30 direct reports attempted or threatened suicide. It was then that I knew I was meant for a different type of work. My calling was to help others live a healthy balanced life while creating the daily peace that we all desire. So I left my steady 9 to 5 career and became my own first client! I got certified to be an Integrative Wellness Life coach and I had to leave a very lucrative career to finally do what I was BORN to do. My pivot happened when I accepted my purpose and began living my life with that purpose driving me. There were and still are many sacrifices but I am proud to join the army of caring human beings who love to put more into the lives of others. I continue to add to my skills and services through continued education. I am currently a Certified Life Coach, a Certified Reiki practitioner, and a Missouri Certified peer specialist, all skills that strengthened Peace For Your Pieces Integrative Wellness.

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
If I could go back I would choose Life Coaching EARLIER! I know my company benefits from my corporate work experience but it is only unique and self sustained because of the passion and drive I have to truly help people create their best existence while on this earth. Knowing my purpose and accepting all that comes with that earlier in life would have allowed my company to touch so many more lives.
