We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sarah Doyle. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sarah below.
Sarah, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
After a 7-year journey in getting my Doctorate in Physical Therapy, I was thrilled to get my first job at Mount Sinai Hospital in Miami Beach. I was a “float” PT, meaning that I went to whichever unit needed a therapist that day and worked bedside. I noticed that what you eat would determine which floor you were on… high sugar diet = cardiac floor, processed and fried foods = GI floor, and all the floors had patients with major dental infections in multiple teeth. We were not taught any of this stuff in the school of allopathic medicine.
I wanted to be different. I wanted to provide a service that would keep people out of the hospital. I heard somewhere that your compensation is directly related to the size of the problem that you solve. Keeping people out of hospitals sounded like a good problem to solve!
I started studying for my certification in functional medicine during the pandemic and began coaching family and friends for free before starting the online courses and telehealth business, DrSarahDoyle.com. Coaching people for free allowed me to develop standard operating procedures, and when I made mistakes, I didn’t feel bad, because hey, it’s free!
The biggest challenge was setting up the technology. At first, I tried to do everything myself and it slowed down my growth. The best thing to do is to hire experts to run the show in the background. I have a great team working for me now. And I didn’t outsource them to the Philippines!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As a female in my 20s and 30s, I felt like my gynecologists could never answer questions about my body and they always wanted to put me on birth control. My niche became working with women to teach them how to find the root cause of their imbalances whether they be due to genetics, environment, diet, or toxins. As I posted success stories about working with women, I started getting inquiries from men so I developed a coaching program for their hormones too!
For men, dopamine and testosterone are intertwined. For women, serotonin and estrogen are intertwined. There are many health coaches out there working with hormones but I am the only one who tests brain chemicals and addresses nutrients to optimize neurotransmitters along with s*x and adrenal hormones.
As I was studying for my functional medicine certification and eventually my Diplomat with the American Clinical Board of Nutrition, I realized that disease is largely the result of vitamin and mineral deficiencies. We can target these when looking at your labwork and any past bloodwork from your other doctors. My coaching programs cover topics of nutrition, thyroid, stress, sleep, exercise, s*x and relationships, s*x hormones, thyroid, brain chemistry, detoxing and genetics.
During the Biohacking Bootcamp (men) and UpWoman Tribe (women) 8-week programs, all my patients take 2 urine tests at home that get shipped to labs by Fed Ex. In the online courses and weekly masterminds, we learn which vitamins, minerals, herbs, and amino acids will rebalance the patient. My goal is to keep people off prescription drugs into their 70s.
While traveling a few years ago, I stumbled upon a practitioner working with a quantic medicine program in Central America where they have implemented timed eating protocols using food as medicine for 50 years. I learned the basic disease prevention protocols and was permitted to use them in my practice. As I studied and wrote the 7X Method, I realized that disease is also due to circadian rhythm disruption. Working night shifts leads to diabetes and eventually cancer in all too many cases. I teach the 7X Method to all my clients as a foundation because if your stomach is inflamed, your brain is inflamed. It’s a game changer for many people, just check the testimonials! The 7X Method is on Audible, in paperback and e-book format on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and anywhere books are sold.
Changing eating patterns and meal prepping are barriers to success for many people when they begin programs. I partnered with a pressed juice company to offer juices to reset metabolism in just 7 days using food as medicine, the patient has the choice to order 7 days of juices whenever they want. They can add a salad that has protein for lunch if they need more food, and have dinner with family.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
I have 14 years of education past high school, which has given me the knowledge to work with my clients. The experience of working in the ICU with extremely involved patients taught me how to work with the emotional side of business. Everybody learns differently and you have to read your client/patient to have a breakthrough with them or support them through the process. If the patient feels emotionally supported they will be your best lead source. You may have heard, “People don’t care what you know as long as they know that you care.” When it comes to healthcare, people definitely care what you know … but you get the jist!
Having solid mentorship is crucial for succeeding in any field. Healthcare practitioners are busy people so it is helpful to have more than one mentor available via text who can help you strategize in a pinch.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Building a StoryBrand by Donald Miller is what I used for my website, my book The THIN Formula, and my client calls.
