Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Holly McDonald. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Holly, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How do you feel about asking friends and family to support your business? What’s appropriate, what’s not? Where do you draw the line?
I feel that it is very important to ask friends and family to support my business. In the residential real estate industry, most of my clients are making very personal decisions. As a friend I take it very seriously that I understand their needs and listen to their concerns, etc. However I do draw the line at helping them with services that I am not well-versed in. For example, on occasion someone will ask for help in a market that is outside my range of expertise. In that case, I am happy to connect them with another professional who I trust will help them better than I could.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I ended up in real estate sooner than I expected but I always thought I might work in the field eventually. Prior to getting my license I was a TV producer for some real estate shows on HGTV, including House Hunters, House Hunters International & My House is Worth What? Working with Realtors, houses, and house hunters was addictive and exciting. That’s when I decided I didn’t want to wait any longer, I wanted to pursue real estate sooner.
Having that background helps me to relate to my clients and provide recommendations for preparing their home to sell for top dollar.
In terms of marketing and branding, I am big on picking an area to market to and saturate it with information that is relevant to that market. This includes community events and networking with locals and local businesses. My goal is to be able to connect clients and possible clients and foster a strong sense of community.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I am a big proponent of events to stay in touch with my past clients. I take every opportunity I can to plan or participate in local events and invite them to come out. Aside from building the relationship, this also helps stay in front of them and remain top of mind.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients for my business has been in through referrals. Hands down, the praise of a satisfied client carries so much weight.
