Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Finnelis Aleman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Finnelis, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
The idea of my business was born after understanding that many other people struggled committing to their health & fitness goals for the same reason I did. I do not believe on living a life with restrictions and following diet plans on a spreadsheet. It felt like there was only one way to do it and I did not fit in any of those boxes. I felt frustrated and would focus on over working my body doing extreme exercises without realizing, I was causing more damaged since I didn’t understand how to properly nourish it.
After many attempts on trying to achieve my goals and realize it was never my body, it was always my approach! Until I finally understood that part, It was when Finnelis Mindset was created.
Finnelis Mindset, it’s the perfect balance and solution for those who enjoy living a healthy lifestyle but also have their hearts for desserts. In our community, we embrace and enjoy all types of food while educating ourselves on what our body and souls appreciates. Only then, it’s when a better relationship with food forms and sustainable changes happens.
We are the community that do not enjoy boring foods and make life simple on creating fun meals. You’ll soon realize that there’s truly no ‘Size fits all’ approach in this program. It’s all in finding the perfect approach that works for you to sustain it forever.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Finnelis, I was born and raised in Dominican Republic until we moved to Queens, NY when I turned 13 years old. Growing up, movement/ fitness was always a part of me. As a child, I grew up racing all the kids that lived in the town which helped me get recruited to join the track and field team in High School. I was a sprinter running 55m, 100m and 400m hurdlers races. As I grew older, I joined the volleyball team in college as a setter and it wasn’t until 2014 that I officially joined the gym.
As someone who grew up around sports, I didn’t know anything about the gym. I was the girl who would hide in a corner with a 15lb dumbbell to do my exercises. Slowly, I started to get more comfortable around the weight room with the help of my boyfriend (husband now) and fast forward today – I’m now helping women find their confidence entering the gym and finding their space in it and owning it.
The main problem I solve with my coaching service is to teach people become aware of their relationship with food. They learn what are their food beliefs while also understanding how much food to properly feed their body. They also receive a workout plan of 8 weeks targeting their fitness goals and finally, linking my program with a spark in mental health. I am very passionate to advocate for mental health as I understand this lifestyle can’t be achieved without understanding where my clients any mental blockages or challenges they are facing.
My brand represents connecting and creating a path for each of my clients to reach their goals and live their best healthy and fulfilling life. My main goal with my clients would be to create sustainable habits for them while teaching to remain consistent when life it’s inconsistent, build the foundation with discipline and connect with themselves in ways they never felt they needed it.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Ever since I started in 2014, I would say the journey of frustration and having to learn every single workout with proper form, entering spaces where I would feel so small and invisible of ‘not being good enough’ at the gym has prepped me so well. I would share my journey in social media with others even in my beginning stages when I didn’t have no sign of physical improvement.
I would get mixed messages of people critiquing my form and some would share a word of encouragement. My intention was truly to always make someone else feel seen and motivate them to start their own journey themselves. It was with a purpose to remind others, that it is okay to not be great at something but with time and consistency it was all possible.
Besides all the critics I would get or despite the voices of imposter syndrome and feeling like you’re not ready enough to help someone else in your journey – I’ve been able to form a group of strong and independent moms, entrepreneur and high achievers change their life as well.
So if you’re starting out on a new field and it feels like you’re not fully equipped with all the knowledge. Please understand that there is always someone waiting for you to continue pushing so you can also help them.
You are enough.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been the dedication and enthusiasm I dedicate to each client and making sure they reach their goals. The results and demonstrating the way they turn their life has turned around for the better, it’s what has been attracting other clients to my business.
It shows hope to others and that it’s truly never too late to change your life around and commit to yourself.
