Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hollywoodd Tomlin . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hollywoodd, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
“Like I mentioned before, I started out playing drums in the church & my mom worked for the radio station so that’s where my love for music stemmed from. My discipline and work ethic came from me playing sports and working with my pops when I was younger. He taught me to always take pride in your work and to be integral. All those things put together make me who I am today. I never wanted to be like anybody else, I never really tried to stand out though… it kinda just happened naturally. “
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
“Lately I have been getting into reading a lot more… for starters I have been reading my Bible and meditating on that but also I have found myself reading The 22 immutable laws of branding, and Think & Grow Rich. These books have opened my eyes up to a whole different side… some of the stuff mentioned I have already been doing on my own but it’s good to see that I was on the right path with what I am doing. I feel like reading and research is one of the best thing’s… but the other side is applying what you learned to your life.”
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
“You know I originally went to college to play football… it didn’t quite work out for me, I was already making beats but I was as serious about it. So after I found out I couldn’t play I went all in with the music… it was an another way I could release my emotions. With this thing call live you always have to be ready to adapt to anything because it’s always going to throw a curve ball at you. Once you give up that’s when you lose, as long as you keep going you have a chance to win and at that point you might gain more than you ever lost … Never be afraid to try something new !”
