Nakia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe to be successful in this business you have to be transparent. Also you have to like people. Excellent customer service skills. Kind very respectful.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
“To this day I am so amazed how God has blessed me with this gift”
Inspired by my grandmothers and aunts, I have always had a passion for baking! Nakia’s Sweet Sinsations started in 2011, baking cakes and cupcakes for friends and family. Through word of mouth I started building a clientele and quickly became a small business. I have baked cupcakes for many Chiefs players, and several Chiefs events, and even for local celebs. My passion and love for baking has grown throughout the years because of the love I have received from so many. I love putting smiles on my customers’ faces! It really warms my heart and encourages me to keep doing what I love!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What really helped build my reputation was word of mouth. Clients referring family and friends to me. Also, responding to any messages at a timely manner. communication is very important when you are serving the public. and always being nice and kind to others.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Social media has helped my business a lot when it comes to food, people love pictures. the visual aspect of seeing what they could potentially purchase. I try my best to get a great photo of everything I make. But you have to be careful with advertisement. Make sure that your product that you have online is very close to what you serve. That way you’re not coming across as a fake advertising. Also, I would tell someone that is starting out. advertise your own product, Don’t post pictures of other advertising products. And if someone sent you a picture of something that they potentially want let them know that it will not be exact.
