We were lucky to catch up with Lucy Mills recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lucy, thanks for joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
This story is actually about two risks!
The year was 2013 and I had just graduated from Liberty University with a B.S. in Psychology and Counseling.
Everything was in place and I was to begin a Master’s Program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with Dayton University.
A few months before the program’s start date, my youngest son who was 19 at the time, began having some health issues.
To make a long story short, the medical doctors we consulted with could offer no viable answers to his situation, so I decided to do my own research and find the answers we needed.
This research led me to several Holistic Health Treatments which included Essential Oils.
What really caught my attention was the fact that Essential Oils, which are derived from plants, contain hundreds of chemical compounds which are necessary to keep our bodies functioning in a healthy way.
The top three compounds I began working with were:
Phenylpropanoids (Which clean the receptor sites of our cells)
Sesquiterpenes (Go into the cell and erase/delete all of the bad information)
Monoterpenes (Help to reprogram the cells and re-establish the cell to its healthy state)
By using Essential Oils, we were able to bring my son back to full health.
In the meantime, I was purchasing the Essential Oils we needed at a local shop called “Earth Elements”. One day while there, the Aromatherapist who was making my blends started talking to me about making infusions, using plants as medicine, how to combine Essential Oils effectively, etc. What she shared fascinated me and I asked her where she had learned this information. She said she trained at a local school called the Institute of Holistic Health Careers (IHHC).
I contacted the school that day, met with an advisor, and started my training to become a Holistic Health Practitioner (HHP).
Risk #1: I called Dayton University and withdrew from their Master’s Program, and have never looked back!
During my training with IHHC, I not only achieved the designation of Holistic Health Practitioner (HHP), but went on to become a Board Certified Polarity Practitioner (BCPP), Bioenergetic Health Practitioner (BHP), and received Certificates of Certification in the areas of Elemental Reflexology (ER), Herbal Education, Holistic Health Advisor (HHA), Reiki, Sound Therapy, Aromatherapy, Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, and Relaxation Massage (RM).
Concurrently, I started my own practice (Holistic Solutions Ohio), and began seeing clients.
Then, in 2016, IHHC had to close its doors.
And so began Risk #2.
My husband and I decided to open our own Adult Career College which refined and expanded on the modalities that had been taught at IHHC.
We named our school “Global Academy for Energetic Education” (GAFEE), and completed the requirements to receive Accreditation from the Ohio State Board of Career Colleges and Schools, the American Association of Drugless Practitioners (AADP), the American Polarity Therapy Association (APTA), and the International Polarity Education Alliance (IPEA).
Classes began in October of 2016, and we are still going strong today!
We offer 2 Diploma Programs:

Registered in Polarity Principles (RPP)
7 Certificate Courses:

Risk #2 was completely worth it, because I truly and fully believe that the answer to all of life’s issues (Physical, Mental, Emotional, and Spiritual) can be found within the theories and principles of Holistic Health and Energy Medicine.
My goal is to make this information and training available to as many people as possible all around the globe.
Lucy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a lifelong learner. I love to read, I love to research, I love to write!
And most of all, I love to share what I have learned with others.
I think we live in an incredible time where we have access to any and all information about which we would like to know.
We have unlimited opportunities and options, and our human potential is expanding very quickly.
Even within all of this expansion, the core existential questions and desires still persist.
Who am I?
Why am I here?
What is my purpose?
What happens beyond this human life?
I believe that the answers to all of the above questions can be found within the arenas of Holistic Health and Energy Medicine.
What is “Holistic Health”?
“Holistic” Health looks at each individual as a “Whole” person: the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of your being.
“Characterized by the treatment of the whole person, taking into account mental and social factors, rather than just the symptoms of a disease.”
What is “Energy Medicine”?
Recognized by the National Institutes of Health and defined within the Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) Subdivisions, Energy Medicine is defined as “any energetic or informational interaction with a biological system to bring back homeostasis in the organism”.
At the core of all this is the concept of subtle energy, which seems to sustain and promote life processes in the biological system.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2952118/
This “subtle energy” is what enables all of our systems to function together – it is the lifeforce that keeps us alive!
You are more than physical.
You have thoughts, you have emotions, you have a soul.
This “subtle energy” cannot be seen.
If a surgeon were to cut into your brain, she would not see your dreams, your goals, your aspirations – and yet they exist and they are a very big part of who you are.
This is what we work with in Energy Medicine – this “subtle energy” that is continuously flowing through and around your body.
This is the information that I have learned about and would like to share with as many people as possible!
As a Holistic Health Practitioner (HHP), I began working with clients in 2013 and have witnessed incredible transformations within the lives of dozens of these clients.
This process begins with information, self-awareness, and empowerment.
As a HHP, my goal is to empower each client to take their health into their own hands and make the necessary changes which will bring them back to full health.
This journey is not always easy, but the results are always worth it!
One of the main Energy Modalities I practice is Polarity Therapy, and the founder of this modality (Dr. Randolph Stone, D.O. N.D., D.C) stated that:
“If we really want health, we must be willing to work for it, the same as we do for wealth, education or any other accomplishment in life.”
True health does take work, and I always strive to work alongside my clients as they move toward their goals.
Some practices involved in attaining health can include:
Getting to know yourself, or “self-awareness”
Using foods as medicine (eating healthy, or “clean”)
Using herbs and essential oils
Practicing meditation
Detoxing the body (juicing, organ cleanses, etc.)
Practicing Polarity Exercises
Receiving Energy-based bodywork
Raising your vibration with sound therapy
As a Holistic Health Practitioner, I provide bodywork and consultation sessions which are specifically tailored to each client’s needs.
In addition to practicing Holistic Health and Energy Medicine modalities, I also own and operate an adult career college based in Dublin, Ohio. (Online courses are available to anyone around the globe)
I established this school (Global Academy for Energetic Education) with the goal of reaching as many people as possible with the information I had learned.
All of our Programs, Courses, and Educational Offerings are targeted for three demographics:
1. Individuals looking to begin a new career in Holistic Health and/or Energy Medicine
2. People already involved in a healing profession (Nurses, Chiropractors, Social Workers, Massage Therapists, Reiki Masters, etc.) who wish to augment their career/practice with additional Training and Certifications
3. Anyone who would like to take control of their own health and learn how to keep themselves and their family members healthy through natural and energetic therapies
In addition to our full Diploma Programs and Certificate Courses, some of the introductory online mini-courses and articles which are available include:

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients (and students) for me is personal referrals (or “word of mouth”).
When it comes to Holistic Health/Energy Medicine Practitioner appointments, people are looking for someone they can completely trust.
When my clients experience positive results, they are excited to tell their friends and family members about what I offer and then recommend that they come to see me as well to address their health and wellness needs.
The situation is very similar when it comes to new students for the school.
People want a quality education that is legitimate and accredited, and first-hand experience conveyed by a friend or an acquaintance is just the advertisement that sends people our way.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
To successfully manage a team and maintain high morale, clear communication is key!
It is important to make sure everyone is on the same page and understands what the plans and goals are for the business.
Clearly articulate and write out your mission, purpose, job descriptions, requirements, expectations, procedures, protocols – anything and everything you can think of that helps to frame why your business exists.
Make sure all team members are valued, listened to, treated well, and included in the applicable business plans.
Team building and appreciation events can be wonderful bonding experiences, so be sure to include these as well.
Have fun and enjoy what you do!
