We recently connected with A.B.O.B. Music Andrew & Nick Gaines and have shared our conversation below.
A.B.O.B. Music, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
We had no intention of ever recording music, let alone together. I, being Andrew — was in film school in Tampa while listening to a number of my friend’s record. This then inspired me and my brother to make music.
All the while Nick was writing poetry while attending Atlantic Coast High School in Jacksonville. He used to show his friend who rapped his poetry — and his friend thought it was good enough for him to start making music. Nick did just that, secretly recording his own content.
We then crossed paths after some time, (since I was away in college and he was still in high school) shared our music, but had to go our separate ways.
I (Andrew) grew uncomfortable recording alone, then Nick and I met in Miami. I was accepted in Graduate Film School at The University of Miami, and Nick was accepted into fashion school at Miami International University of Art & Design.
After showcasing our music to each other, I suggested we team up and form what is now our Hybrid Band — A.B.O.B. Music. At first, Nick was a little reluctant to form the group… So I helped him make up his mind by threatening to withhold music recording software like Pro Tools as well as the equipment + hardware to continue making music haha.
Thus, A.B.O.B. Music was born!
And this journey has never been easy; but we always believed in it. God is our mentor & through Him; everything is possible. We strive to inspire those that feel they don’t have a voice or are afraid to make that final leap of faith.
A.B.O.B. Music, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We specialize in giving people seductive soul, funk, and waves — musically of course. What sets us apart, I believe honestly is whether or not God wants us to be doing what we’re doing. Creating what we’re creating. He controls everything. All we can really do is work as hard as we possibly can to dig deep within ourselves and these creative worlds emotionally — in order to connect with and reach people.
We want to bring them into new worlds through our sonics and visuals. We like to couple our music with visuals that come in the form of movie and tv narratives and anthologies. Essentially we like to create the music or the soundtrack and then merge them with the movies of that audio. We’re most proud about the hope to be constantly learning in order to make positive strides forward. There’s so much out here to seize, know, and capture. So we always hope to be receptive individuals to this, always making the most out of every opportunity.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Making Excuses & thinking that all things aren’t possible. We see the world & hear the stories of various entertainers. It’s possible to live your dream & make an idea you have come to life. But, are you willing to work?
And that’s something we always have been telling ourselves; everything is possible you just have to work. Don’t justify being lazy. We see how you can be so successful in any entrepreneurship & travel at any expense & help those struggling around the world. All of this is possible!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Being ourselves & creating a culture/community through our music. We’re very hands on with our productions, visuals, and style. And that style is a Trippy Comic Book Anime World that we provide for our listeners & supporters.
