We were lucky to catch up with Kelly Hobson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kelly thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We love heartwarming stories – do you have a heartwarming story from your career to share?
I am very blessed to have many heartwarming stories to choose from so this was difficult but I have to go with an incredible client I’ll call Annie for the sake of privacy. Annie came to me with stage 4 cancer. She told me she had lost the will to live and coming to see me was her last attempt at wanting to survive. Through the use of Hypnotherapy & Neuro-linguistic Programming I was able to guide Annie to reach parts of her that needed healing due to traumas, outdated messages and limiting beliefs. We shifted perspective, healed old wounds, reprogramed messages and challenged and shifted beliefs to be in alignment with her living her happiest and most empowered life. When we met for her last session she said to me ‘When I first came to see you I was the walking dead and now I want to live! I feel strong, I have energy and understand that I make my life what I want it to be!” She has a new theme song that she plays and sings everyday called ‘Unstoppable.’ The change I have seen in Annie is immense, moving and incredibly inspiring. I am so grateful to be a part of her uprising.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I was a dancer my whole life. I taught for 25 years, ran my own studio, and had it all figured out. Until one day a friend simply asked me how I was doing, and, in that moment, my whole world came crumbling down with the realization that I was not happy. I always had a voice inside me telling me that I am here to help people and it was starting to shout. Listening to this voice meant acknowledging and healing my own traumas before I could work with others…whatever that was going to be! I had no idea what I was going to do but I had to follow my heart. So, I started my journey of healing old wounds, shifting negative beliefs and effectively rewiring my brain. I shut down my dance studio, left the only world I knew and said, ‘OK universe I’m ready…now what?” And it is no word of a lie when I tell you that everything just lined up for me. I listened to my intuition, and it led me first to energy healing modalities. This led to starting a Hypnotherapy course with Linda Campbell which brilliantly coincided with NLP courses taught by Harry Nichols & Kathy Welter Nichols. I was then introduced to Dr. Noel Taylor with whom I was fortunate enough to study EFT (Tapping), TFT (Thought Field Therapies) and Acupressure. What I offer to clients is professional guidance to shift perspective, change limiting beliefs, identify patterns, heal traumas, find freedom from coping mechanisms, transcend blocks and hesitations, and ultimately find inner peace.
I went into this work with a heart on fire and it is true what they say, when you do what you love you’ll never work a day in your life. And I would like to add when you follow your heart you will never need to worry.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Compassion, humor and results. I am fortunate to have been told by every client I meet, in their own way, that they feel comfortable with me right off the bat. I believe this is because I am candid. We laugh when we feel like laughing and we cry just the same. I don’t try to be someone I’m not. So this leaves me with an abundance of space to listen and be present with each client. To go through it all with them and from that place I can easily tap into my intuition and guide my clients to creating the changes they desire. I do this work because my heart told me this is my gift and how I can give back.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson I had to unlearn was, ‘You are what other people think you are.’ We can so easily be imprisoned by the labels that society gives us. You are a dancer. You are a comedian or secretary or math teacher. You are this and that and that is who you are. We can take on these labels and allow them to take the drivers seat of our lives informing our decisions and hindering us from being our authentic self. Some people thought I was crazy to shut down my studio and go into a field I had no previous experience with, but all that chatter came from fear. Fear of the unknown. Fear of instability. I chose to stop living in fear and those who saw through the labels I was given knew, as I did, that I was absolutely on the right path. You are whoever and whatever is right for you in this moment. You are infinite. You are under no obligation to be who you were five years ago, five months ago or five minutes ago.
