We were lucky to catch up with Jen Cannon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jen, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My mission is to help people navigate their spiritual awakening and balance their life with potent energetic tools, practices and knowledge.
I’ve always been incredibly energetically sensitive. When I was eleven years old, I had a heart awakening which led to a complete and utter state of joy, unity and absolute harmony. It lasted for weeks. Of course, I had no context or idea what it was, being raised Catholic, and when I went back to my normal state of consciousness I experienced immense suffering.
Fast forward to young adulthood, when I first graduated from college and I entered into a corporate career. Everything looked great on paper and in society’s eyes I was a success. But inside I was miserable! I couldn’t sleep well at night because my mind would loop with anxiety, and I wasn’t excited to get out of bed in the morning. I had no emotional processing tools or ways to manage stress.
One day after work I stumbled into a yoga class. I was hooked. I learned to regulate my nervous system, how to practice mindfulness and meditation, and began to sleep better. As I balanced my emotional and physical body I began to understand the spiritual experience that had happened to me as a child was what the yogis call a heart chakra awakening, which led to a temporary state of Samadhi.
I now work with others who are seeking to balance out their energetic system. Oftentimes they are going through a spiritual awakening, or in a period of stress and anxiety known as “The Dark Night of the Soul” and need support from someone who has experienced what they are going through and come out the other end. More and more people are awakening spiritually in these quickly evolving times, and it can be very confusing to navigate the terrain of a sudden energetic shift without the proper tools.
I am a three times certified yoga teacher, intuitive mentor, EFT practitioner and Pranic Healer. No session looks the same, because everyone is at a different place in their journey. I cater sessions to the client’s energetic needs.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
What I’m most proud of is that I take complex spiritual knowledge and make it easily digestible and accessible to those just getting started on their journey. Walking a spiritual path requires years of practice, study and dedication. I hope to be a bridge for others to navigate this oftentimes confusing terrain with ease and grace.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I’ve invested tens of thousands into yoga, coaching and certification programs to develop my skillset. I used my corporate job as my investor, babysat and moonlighted as a waitress in my 20s. When I got certified to teach yoga, I would teach everywhere after work. In parks, retirement homes, offices, spas, gyms, and for private clients.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to step out of people pleaser consciousness and being “the good girl”. When you are a spiritual teacher, you are often mistaken as someone who is too nice, a pushover, or has their head in the clouds. You cannot run a business without healthy boundaries. I had to learn that in order to be my authentic self and create a business that thrives- I had to get over the need for external validation and the judgement that comes with teaching spiritual principles. Not everyone is going to like, understand, or support me. I’ve lost friends who just don’t understand what it is that I’m doing, or think I’m too “woo woo”. And that’s okay. It took a lot of inner work to get to the point where I’m openly able to express myself and my way of seeing reality. I wouldn’t trade that authenticity for anyone’s approval.
