We recently connected with The Big Return of Australian actress, Winnie Mzembe and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Winnie, thanks for joining us today. What was one of the most important lessons you learned in school? Why did that lesson stick with you?
In school, I learned that the essence of the craft lies in embodying truth, embracing vulnerability, and relentlessly pursuing authenticity in every performance

Winnie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m an actor with a passion for both theatre and screen performances. My journey began on the theatrical stage, where I cultivated my love for storytelling and character exploration. Over the years, I’ve seamlessly transitioned into screen acting, embracing the nuances of both mediums. My craft revolves around delivering compelling and authentic performances that captivate audiences. From emotive theatre productions to engaging on-screen narratives, I bring characters to life, aiming to provide a rich and immersive experience for viewers. My dedication to the art of acting fuels my commitment to delivering impactful and memorable creative works across various platforms

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Certainly! There was a pivotal moment in my journey when I faced the challenging decision of whether to continue pursuing my passion for acting or take a different path. Wrestling with uncertainty, I made the choice to pivot towards education and became a teacher. While immensely rewarding, my love for acting never waned. Eventually, fueled by a deep desire to rekindle my artistic flame, I made the decision to return to acting. This journey has taught me the importance of resilience, self-discovery, and the undeniable pull of one’s true passion. Navigating this pivot has not only strengthened my commitment to acting but has also enriched my understanding of the dynamic nature of personal and professional growth

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Absolutely. My creative journey is fueld by a mission to explore the depths of human emotion and tell stories that resonate with authenticity. I aim to create a meaningful impact through my performances, whether on stage or screen, by delving into the complexities of characters and narratives. Ultimately, my goal is to connect with audiences on a profound level, fostering empathy, understanding, and a shared appreciation for the diverse tapestry of human experiences. Through my craft, I aspire to inspire, entertain, and contribute to the collective tapestry of storytelling that transcends boundaries and resonates universally
