We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Anny Leon a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Anny, thanks for joining us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
Growing up, my grandparents always instilled in me the importance of school, goals, and never giving up on a dream. My grandmother was a Christian and since we’re Venezuelan, she would always say “Es-tu-dios” (It’s your god) as in studying should be seen as my God as well. I was raised to overcome adversity and stick to my goals. The way I would earn my gifts, such as a car when I graduated, a phone, etc., was through maintaining good grades and keeping school a priority. When I did want a car at 16, they taught me the value of a dollar by pushing me to work and pay for insurance. I also paid for the down payment on my first car.
Without them pushing me to do everything I set my mind to, helping me but only after I’ve earned it, they taught me the power of hard work and sticking to your goals. I am a challenge driven individual thanks to it, and I am not afraid to do what it takes to get the outcome I want.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am the owner of Law Offices of Anny Leon PLLC. My firm handles immigration issues, such as deportations, family petitions, citizenships, etc. We also handle family law cases such as divorce, paternity, child support, relocations, and emergency motions. We are a fully bilingual law firm (Spanish/English) comprised of me, as the attorney, a receptionist, a paralegal, and a legal assistant. I am biased, but we have the best team. As an immigrant myself, and having undergone a divorce, I can relate to my clients. I understand the difficulty of the immigration system and I also understand the emotion behind a divorce, especially when children are involved.
I strive to provide the best customer service and whether win or lose, my clients should know that we did everything we could. Since I am the only attorney in the firm, communication with me is a bit more direct than with bigger firms. We are currently still taking new cases and hope to continue to grow in the coming years.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
There’s many… The most recent one is when I opened my firm for the first time in 2019, and then covid hit and I also got divorced. My mental and financial state were at an all time low. At that point, I had to make decisions for everything in my life and everything changed. I began working at a firm learning a new branch of the law. I sold and purchased a new home, and a couple of years later, I was able to get back on my feet and reopen my firm. We are doing wonderful, I remarried and also had another baby recently. When times are tough, we just got to keep going and just take it one step at a time, one day at a time.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source is word of mouth. This is why we strive to do the best. We have also done well with social media.
