We recently connected with Alisa Garcia and have shared our conversation below.
Alisa, appreciate you joining us today. So, one thing many business owners consider is donating a percentage of revenue or profits to an organization or cause. We’d love to hear your thoughts and the story behind how and why you chose the cause or organization you donate to.
Philanthropy is very important to myself and my organization. We’ve managed to raise almost seven million dollars, bootstrapping and plan on donating a million of it to my nonprofit to build a community of 1,000 solar powered, 3D concrete printed homes for orphans, in Nigeria.
Our community will have a medical, educational and art facility. It will also be self-sustainable with its own farm.
Growing up without much, my plan to give back is my core focused for achieving financial success.
Alisa, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Art for became therapy for myself, shortly after my brother was murdered (2015). It was an escape and a way for me to retreat within and eventually was a way for me to heal, with more deaths to follow.
I’ve loss six family members back-to-back. Battling alcoholism and substance abuse, ran me back into art, with the last two passings. My mother ( September 2020 and grandmother 2021).
I’ve won 7 international always, I will accept one in Barcelona in November and I’ve had the honor of exhibiting in Dubai, with Global Art Agency UAE.
My ultimate goal is to bring art into underserved communities, that are often overlooked. Making art inclusive is a goal of mine.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
For me not pretending to know everything has working in my benefit. Often times in todays social media influenced world, everyone wants to be perfect.
We want to project this imagine to our peers, investors, clients and even our mentors. Being an autistic adult, I cannot mask and when I do it completely takes away from myself.
So, from the beginning of this journey I have been upfront with everyone and I let them know that I do not know everything in the real estate and eventuate capital work. However, I will continue to learn everyday.
This has allowed me to build organic relationships and gain investments.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Over-sharing. Our lives in this day in age are compiled of reels, stories and feeds. The need to share every moment creeps up on all of us.
I’ve had to learn that sometimes it’s best to complete a project and then share. We don’t need to broadcast our every step.
I think remaining a mystery it sometimes for the best. As it leads to others wanting to know more about you and your brand.
