We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Olivia Klein. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Olivia below.
Olivia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
My whole life I have loved creating things. Constructing works of art for myself, family members, friends, and strangers put a smile on my face and motivation in my heart. During my senior year of high school, I decided to start looking for a future profession since college applications needed to be filled out soon. My computer was running 24/7 trying to find something that sparked my interest. When I couldn’t find anything I told myself, “If I can’t find something for me then I will just create it.” That is when the idea of Simply Livy G was born. Once I started taking art classes during my freshman year of college at Charleston Southern University, I started becoming more knowledgeable about starting a business. Since I have never looked back. I felt like I could succeed when I started Simply Livy G because so many people have told me how talented, creative, and bright I am. They have told me on multiple occasions how the world needs to see my designs. So I took their advice and put it into action!
I have met so many people with inventive imaginations and I have made so many beautiful relationships with my college professors and clients along the way. I will never regret my decision to make a business that makes people feel loved, cared for, seen, and important.
Olivia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Olivia Klein and I’m a college student majoring in Graphic Design at Charleston Southern University! I have lived in Charleston my entire life and I do not plan on leaving anytime soon. Owning my own business has been a lifelong dream of mine and I am so blessed and grateful that my dream has come true.
When I first started Simply Livy G, I wanted my business to be a place where creative ideas could be created into beautiful designs. I also wanted to create a space where my clients/customers felt loved, seen, and comfortable. Hence the phrase, “Simple designs made with love” which is nothing but the truth, I put so much thought, effort, heart, and soul into every single individual design that I create whether it is for me or a client/customer. I specialize in creating unique, modern, and minimalistic designs that will help brands stand out and personal lifestyles shine! Simply Livy G offers many services including logo, brand identity, business card, and sticker designs. I also create beautiful art for living or office spaces. I am sure to make your creative brand or lifestyle dreams come true!
What I think sets Simply Livy G apart from other graphic design businesses is that I strive to create a relationship with every single one of my clients/customers. Creating relationships makes the people that I work with feel more comfortable and reliable which helps me feel stress-free.
I am most proud of how far I have come with my small business. I haven’t given up and pushed through the most difficult times. I am very thankful for my clients/customers, family, and friends who have helped, motivated, and pushed me through this journey so far.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative artist is seeing a smile on my clients’/customers’ faces. Knowing that I have successfully created something for them, whether it may be a physical painting or a brand new logo, pushes and motivates me to become a better artist.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I knew that being a college student while owning a small business was going to be difficult but I was ready to take on the challenge. My first-ever client was very eye-opening since I didn’t have any experience with owning a business and I was and still am happy to have her as my first. She was very patient with me and since she owns her own business she was, and still is, willing to answer any questions that I have. After creating a logo for her business I feel more knowledgable and confident!
While being a college student and a business owner has been emotionally difficult you learn and gain so many skills throughout the journey. If you are struggling to choose whether or not to create a business while in college I say leap! It could change your life for the better!
