We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dr. Tammy Delaney. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dr. Tammy below.
Dr. Tammy , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
When I think of taking a risk, I envision this to be comparable to taking a “step of faith.” As a young, African American female, I have faced many challenges in life that have attempted to deter me from obtaining my goals as an entrepreneur. Like many of us, life’s ever-changing variables present unforeseen circumstances that may challenge us to stretch and take risks that we probably would prefer to opt out of taking. Nevertheless, my journey to entrepreneurship has been the epitome of such. But in the same breath, I wouldn’t trade my journey for anything. It is in the trenches of risk taking, that we are able to draw what we need from within ourselves and from our resources around us. This will, in turn, propel us to where we are destined to be. Stepping out into entrepreneurship without sufficient capital and financial resources is the greatest risk I’ve ever taken. Thankfully, every time I take a step of faith, the floor never collapsed and God always provides! So, here we are, preparing to relaunch!

Dr. Tammy , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a Doctorally prepared, certified Nurse Practitioner. My greatest passion is advocacy for those who cannot advocate for themselves. What sets me apart from others is my empathetic approach to patient care. When people think of C & T Healthcare Specialists I want them to think of a Provider who cares not only for their physical well-being, but their emotional and spiritual health as well. I’m so excited that we have incorporated Wellness Coaching and Professional Pastoral Care and Counseling into our practice!

Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
Even though I’m vacillating between two answers right now….lol….I can truly say that I’m a Nurse to my core. If I could go back, I would still choose to be a Healthcare Provider. Even though sometimes we care for others more than we care for ourselves, it’s still such a rewarding career and MINISTRY!

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
I think that being willing to be a lifelong learner and student is the most helpful for succeeding in this field. We have to realize that we are PRACTICING medicine. We have YET to “know it all” and that’s ok. I also believe that listening to our patients is imperative. They basically tell you everything you need to know if you…..listen. Even if they are nonverbal….listen. Listen to body language, listen to what’s not being said. Also, listen to the voice within yourself. While you can’t always “trust your gut” there are clues there that can help us decode that which is encoded.
