Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Keitrell Hamilton . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Keitrell , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you have an agent or someone (or a team) that helps you secure opportunities and compensation for your creative work? How did you meet you, why did you decide to work with them, why do you think they decided to work with you?
Back when I got into acting school I had high confidence with signing to an agency. I went to Santa Clarita school of performing arts. Every weekend they had agents and managers looking to sign people. My 2nd week at the school I felt like I was ready to perform for an agent and get signed. I failed miserably and went back to the drawing board. I say maybe after like 6 months at the school I performed for a different agent and she liked my performance and my image, and I was signed on the spot. Jacque gave me the opportunity. I definitely want to thank her.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I grew up in Pacoima California. Louvre St was my home. I had a great life growing up. Since I was a kid I was told I was a character. I was always the class clown and I always made people laugh, including my teachers. I have always brought positive energy around others. When it came to joking and bagging on my friends it was to make us all laugh not just me. Before I got into the acting world I was a musician first. I got signed to YBS ENT back in like 2016. I did not have a lot of music out due to the fact I was new to doing it and I was careful with putting any kinda music out. It took me a couple years to actually drop a song because of my confidence. I got help from my friends/brothers Taijuan and Selasie. We started making music featuring each other and dropping an album on all streaming platforms called Year of the Savage, which was during the pandemic. In 2017 was when I booked my biggest commercial as a barber for the iPhone 7. I was on a roll and me booking jobs were at about 70 percent. I started to learn how to write my own skits and short films. I grew in this entertainment field so I can we will rounded and not one dimensional. I have dealt with as lot of scams from fake acting auditions to fake music promotions. If it sounds too good to believe then most likely it’s a scam forsure. I hope that a lot of artists don’t bite on scams and lose money or anything. I been through a lot within the years of me in this field. A friend/brother of mines decided to start a production called New Heights. We’re gonna help and give opportunities to the young and even older artists that’s looking to get help with demo reels, headshots and possibly be casts in our films. We’re trying to be the change that people can trust. Even if it sounds good it’s gonna actually be legit. I’m proud that I made it this far and still maintaining my passion for being an entertainer throughout the pandemic. I almost gave up but I God had my back and kept me strong and getting back to my grind. I recently dropped my first hip hop album on all streaming platforms on 12-12-23. I be willing to work with other musicians and actors. Reach me on Instagram @KeitrellHamilton.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I knew that I couldn’t make friends become fans and support your movement. Even though you’ll hear them say they will support, come to your shows and buy merchandise. It’ll never workout that way unless they were getting some sort of exposure or money. I realized that you can’t expect friends or people you personally know to look out and support you. The real support come from random people that’s not even in this country. They show more love than your next door neighbor. I wish I knew this sooner, but I’m adapting and still pushing to achieve my goal.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Back when my dad was still alive I told myself that I want to reach a point in life that my income allows me to take care of my family. I want to become financially stable. After losing my dad in 2019 and my best friend KC in 2018 It brought out a different passion in me. I feel like I’m the only one that can make me fail. I think losing a loved one is supposed to make you grind harder and keep the passion for what you want to achieve. Me being financially stable is the goal. Knowing my dad would be happy keeps me going.
