We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Corey Lehman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Corey below.
Corey, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I’ve worked on many meaningful productions over the years projects like “Kraft Minded, Harvey There Yet?, and The Clark Jones Story. The thing that separates my latest project ” Corey’s Big Picture Show” from the rest is it is my self through images in the most authentic way and it is also interesting technologically. Last year I took about 33,000 photos and I have every one of those images archived in addition to every year before since 2018. In 2019 I chose to take the photos from each year and convert them to a video friendly format and put the photos in a video timeline and set each image to last only 3 frames each. The result is a fast moving slideshow depicting my life over the year and it’s effect is truly profound. I keep doing these because they are a profound reflection of not just my life but a human life. ONE YEAR of human life collapsed into an hour and 26 minutes.

Corey, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Corey Lehman, I am from Duluth,MN. I’m almost 30 (and scared of that fact). Throughout my upbringing in Duluth I was always interested in artistic and odd things. I went on out on my own when I was 17 and experienced homelessness for a few months before getting on my feet and attending college. I used my experience in higher education to better my life as much as I could by gaining deans list accreditation and eventually getting a full ride scholarship to a 4 year school.
Since then I’ve become passionate about traveling, having lived in Austin, Texas, and now Boston, Massachusettes with excursions to London, UK, Dulbin, Ireland, and The Phillipines. My art has guided me, fed me and been my creative outlet. I am a director, and photographer. I have directed a 6 episode TV series called Harvey There Yet, and several short films. My favorite type of films to make are documentaries with deep interpersonal storytelling – almost like a character study piece but in real life. I have achieved this with the film Kraft Minded, and 2 other projects “Mephobia, and The Clark Jones Story”.
Overall, if you were to talk to my old college classmates they might say I was the one that “made it” because I was the one that sacrificed the most to work totally in the arts and in filmmaking in particular, also the travel that I do is by far my favorite reward in my life. I am always excited to travel and the feeling I get when beginning a journey on the road is pure bliss!
That’s most of what I have to say about me! Other notable things are I run a blog website dedicated to flim reviews both major and local. Anyone can submit a screener of their film to me and I will happlily review it. My website is IMDB approved and would count as “Press or Media” on the site which helps boost independent filmmakers projects.
That’s all!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Can I share an essay about my experience with homelessness when I was younger? That alone has taught me about resilience. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1l5C-jZ-J5smFRrtx_GTw6KOBd9xQtqP5qtDlM1dkksI/edit?usp=sharing
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Telling stories that need to be told and evoke a respone from my heart before the project ever begins. I always strve to “strike while the iron is hot” and tell a story about a profound person as the story unfold. This is apparent in the work films that I’ve done. Both are directed in a “veritas” style meaning the story unfolds in a candid way which includes the chractization of the person filming the story as well.
