We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Andrew Schultz. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Andrew below.
Hi Andrew, thanks for joining us today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
Getting fired from my corporate job in November 2011. It was the beginning of my downward spiral of addiction which brought me to rock-bottom on April 30, 2015 where I was taking sleep pills and not wanting to wake-up. I had lost all hope and the will to live. The depths of pain, suffering, despair and darkness I’ll never forget.
My family did an intervention which helped save my life. I went to a treatment facility and started to build a new foundation of sobriety which has catapulted me into a life of service that I live today. I just celebrated 7 years of sobriety and living a life of purpose and meaning. Getting the opportunity to empower others with the same tools which has transformed my own life. And turning my mess into my Message. My darkest hour and rock-bottom has become my greatest asset and brightest light to inspire hope for others.
Getting fired from that corporate job was the 1st domino in a chain of events that changed the trajectory of my life.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I never ask coaching clients to take actions that I haven’t already taken myself. The same tools, practices, and principles I use to empower and others are the same ones I’ve used to transform my own life. And there is no greater pain and suffering than losing the will to live. That darkness I don’t wish upon anyone. Yet it’s that same darkness and rock-bottom that inspires everything I do today to help others. Moving from calamity, despair, pain, and suffering to serenity, hope, freedom, and love has become my life’s work and purpose. There is no greater knowledge than 1st-hand and real-world life experiences. I’m not regurgitating things I read in a book to my coaching clients to come across as an expert. I’m not stealing someone else’s content and putting my logo on it. And this is what separates me from other coaches.
I empower others to take radical responsibility and create new possibilities in their life through vulnerability and connection.
I help others develop a loving, kind, and compassionate relationship with themselves.
I empower others to remove the unhealthy patterns and limiting beliefs that get in the way of people becoming their best and highest self.
I support and hold others accountable.
I give others permission to share their truth and lead with vulnerability and open hearts.
I love and believe in others until they love and believe in themselves.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I am not capable of being in a loving partnership and sacred union. I am broken. There is something wrong with me. I believed this to be true for most of my life, until just recently. Every intimate relationship with a woman ended the same way.
Only after investing in my own coach and therapist did I realize this was BS. It was a lie. Yet it took LOTS of inner-work to uncover this and working through unresolved trauma that had been blocking me from the one thing I wanted most in life – A deep, meaningful, and intimate connection with a woman. With walls down and heart open.
This is why I love working with men! So many other men are struggling with similar limiting-beliefs, unresolved traumas, fears. and addictions. And men don’t like to ask for help! And it’s literally killing us and others. Unmanageable stress and anxiety, lack of emotional resilience and mental health strength, and addictions to numb as a way to cope. We’re literally at war with ourselves.
There is a better way! And we all deserve love and deep connection. To not just survive, but thrive!
We’re not broken. There’s nothing wrong with us. We just need help from trusted friends, mentors, coaches, and therapists to get out of our own way. That’s why I do the work I do. And why I’m so passionate about it!
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Finding a group of trusted friends to build community and connection! We are tribal people. We all need help and support from others. It’s when I ask for help that my life always improves exponentially. So many people are struggling today because of isolation and loneliness. “WE” is so much richer than “me.” Find your tribe and love them hard. Encourage, support, and empower others and it will come back to you.
I know too many people who have a ton of money who are miserable, alone, and have nobody to share their riches with.
