Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Krys Lassiter. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Krys thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
I’ve had many defining moments but there is one that sticks out… let’s call this one “Affirmation”: It’s 2pm EST, spring semester at Hampton U… I’m asleep in my car for the 15 minutes between classes…up since 6am to dress and feed my 1yo daughter for daycare, pack lunch for my military husband, and make it to 8am classes, then to work at a church daycare. I’m majoring in clinical psych with the sole purpose of making a difference in the lives of those who are suffering from mental illness. I’m 18 years old – bold, determined, unsure of my future except that failure was not an option.
Fast forward 20 years. My mom has had a few “episodes” including being found walking up the highway in a hospital gown, and having ripped the IV out of her arm. The diagnosis: Mold-induced psychosis.
Leap again a few more years…. mom is walking around my grandmother’s home with a coat over her head in the middle of the night, pacing back and forth, and mumbling about entities coming to get her. The ridiculous diagnosis from her emergency providers: Her BP had dropped too low causing her to be disillusioned.
Last leap….. Mom is paranoid with early-onset dementia while also caring for my ailing grandmother who has Alzheimer’s Disease. The dementia is winning, and mom is slipping away…. The paranoia is distancing her from everything and everyone, including me. The reality is that mom likely has been suffering from undiagnosed Bipolar disorder for much of her life. How could they have missed that all these years? These, and many moons after, are some of my darkest moments. Mom’s spirit was set free July 2015.
The Moments of Affirmation:
During one of her recoveries from hospitalization, mom said to me that I was walking in my purpose – that this was what I was meant to do – care and advocate for anyone who may not be able to speak up for themselves. By then, I was deep into my career as a clinician and felt honored and privileged to be equipped to help my mom when she needed me most on that day. 18yo Krys could have never known that 25 years later, her greatest gift would come in the form of being able to advocate for her mother as a trained Clinician who, thankfully, spoke the clinical language needed and understood treatment planning and protocols to navigate the best care for mom. She thanked me. There was- and has not been- any greater moment of affirmation in my career than that one.
The Bonus:
Over the many years, I have cultivated my ability to diagnose – clinically and spiritually. I’ve poured my gifts of training and discernment into the avenues of assessment, education, professional development, and spiritual awakening while staying true to my childhood dream of helping people with mental illness and discord. Now, this comes in the form of Life Mastery and Transformation Coaching for those who feel they are stuck in a negative life pattern that prevents them from living their best lives. It also comes in the form of all things Human Resources. Lastly, and best of all, it comes in my gift of motherhood -to teach my children that titles matter much less than intention and deeds. And, that we are each put here to master life alignment to be our highest and greatest selves by utilizing the gifts to which we are given.
Krys, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Many years ago, as I was discovering my love for psychology and understanding human behavior, I also realized that there are 3 component elements to our existence and well-being: Body, Mind, and Spirit. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I guided my clients with this in mind – that all 3 parts must be in alignment for us to experience our “best selves”. In 2017, I shifted my business from mainly consulting to Life Mastery and Transformation Coaching. This is where Realign by Design was born.
Realign by Design Coaching guides high-achieving, goal-driven, men and women out of burnout and into alignment in all key areas of their lives. I serve as the Accountability Partner to heighten self-awareness and healthy boundaries while unlocking the highest and greatest potential of my client. My intention is to teach sustainable tools to stay connected – Body, Mind, and Spirit – and realign former false beliefs and negative self-talk which prevent us from prospering in our personal and professional lives.
What sets me apart from all other Coaches is that I offer a COACHING EXPERIENCE rather than merely a “program”. My Transformation Experience is designed to positively disrupt and realign your life based on 30 years of clinical experience, deeply rooted intuition, a 3-pronged Body/Mind/Spirit approach, and specific exercises that cater to individual emotional, spiritual, physical, and financial needs.
I am most proud of the AHA! MOMENTS that shift the trajectory of my client’s lives for the positive. During the Life Mastery Transformation Coaching Experience, my clients learn how to identify and resolve challenges, employ sustainable tools, and adopt an attitude of limitless achievements and potential. THIS is what drives me and serves as the foundation of Realign by Design; Intentional life realignment and empowerment for men and women!!
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing clientele – and reaching my ideal client – has been my dedication to being authentic and demonstrative integrity, even when it was the road less traveled. Though I am present on several social media platforms and connect with clients there, I love receiving referrals directly from former and current clients because it provides a layer of familiarity and trust that allows us to dive right into the journey of life realignment. Lastly, a positive outlook, resilience, and commitment to my craft reach and grow my clientele. I am honored to serve as the vessel for their empowerment and enrichment.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Ooooh, this is one of my favorite questions!! To manage, produce, and sustain a high-performing team with high morale we must:
*Adopt a Servant Leader attitude where power is shared, the needs of the team come first, and team members are heard and respected;
*Have clear, concise, concrete S.M.A.R.T GOALS so everyone on the team is informed and has bought into the set intention;
*Be invested – in the Team, in the goals, and in the spirit of the journey!
