We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jazmine Broe. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jazmine below.
Jazmine, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
When I was 17 I was cast in a Peruvian television show. My experience working with the cast and crew, receiving direction, bringing scenes to life, it made me fall in love with acting and the filmmaking process. I have held a passion for it ever since.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
As an actor, a lot of my work is in the preparation. Creating a character requires forethought and study. Knowing lines and marks. Having ideas that I can bring to the set. One of the things I am most proud of in my acting career is that I have been able to work successfully in both theatre and film. Theatre requires emoting and projecting to the audience sitting in the last row while film can require extreme subtlety. Having the range to do both has given me opportunities to work on lots of fun projects.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
From the ages of 17 to 26 I was working consistently as an actor in Peru. But then when I decided to move to the United States, my career had to pivot in many ways. Instead of acting in Spanish, I had to act in English and embrace the roles of immigrants who spoke with an accent. I also had to start over in regard to my networking. It takes years to build connections and meet people in the industry and develop a body of work. It was a difficult shift in my career that continues to this day.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
One of the chief goals I have for my career is to continue to bring representation to Latino characters and culture. Also to be part of projects that have a social impact. For example, right now I am working with the University of Michigan on a film series that deals with important issues that students face. We are trying to generate awareness so teachers and other students are more accommodating of students with anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, etc.
