Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Edmundo Mena (MUNDO). We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
MUNDO, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
For a very long time, being artist seemed unrealistic to be a full time career. I was raised to prioritize my survival and make sure that I was profiting in some type of way. The artist path is not really linear with that mindset, at least for me. My creative journey has always been about risk and taking chances, fully giving yourself to the present moment. I didn’t learn that until I started treating this hobby as a lifestyle. That was when I was 17. I’m 19 right now, and it’s so enlightening to know there’s so much to learn even if you think you know it all. The drive to express myself was bursting out of me since a child, I was dancing on stages and being unapologetically myself for as long as I can remember. I taught myself how to play bass, guitar, piano, drums and how to engineer songs. It only felt like I had to learn how to harness my gifts and put them into action. I think I’ve always known deep down, but recognizing what I’m capable of was the true challenge.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is MUNDO*, I am an artist that’s based out of Stockton, California. I’m 19 years old and I’m a self taught producer, mix and master all of my music, create visual art such as graphic design, painting, drawing and music videos. I like using my art as a reflection for my life experiences. I try to put all of my personal essence into all of my work, especially my music. I feel as if the more authentic you are in your endeavors, the more it will attract the people that need to hear what you have to say, so I try to live as true this statement as possible. I’m so proud of my growth as an artist and how well my creative expression is becoming. The more and more I dive deep into myself the more complex my work becomes, giving me way more enjoyment of creating a personal experience with my art so people can feel the intention I put behind each piece. Music and art overall has saved my life

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Right now it feels as if the world is waiting for someone to speak up about whats really going on. There’s so much deceit that we face in our day to day lives and in a broader sense since were conditioned to be closed off from our feelings. Born. into poverty and forced into survival mode, only looking for what can keep us afloat. That clouds us from growth and understanding. I think that’s why artist are important. They give a window to the soul, something that captures a glimpse of what we truly can be. Pure energy, our own spirit. Give less into trends and pop culture and embrace you, your own personal experience, that exclusivity of your own perception. Uplift what makes you feel good, and give your energy to people that will reciprocate that back. That’s what will push the creativity more.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding to me is the experience itself. The people you meet, the things you go through, the way your thought process changes. So many doors open up to you since most creatives are always searching for what makes them tick. You get to hear so many perspectives and backgrounds that somehow relate back to you and help you on your journey. It’s a group effort to get where you are. Helping one another understand the world around us. The music scene out in Northern California is full of so much vibrant new sounds and I am so proud to be a part of it. Inspiring people is another beautiful thing to see. I love telling people that they can do anything they put their mind to because I manifested my whole life up until this very moment. Fully trusting that I was going to reach my goals no matter what obstacle was in my way. Anything is possible if you truly want it.
