We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Heather Halliday a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Heather thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Oh, this is a great question! I think determination. Persistence, positive thinking and relationship building all add up to being successful. It takes a certain mindset to feel accomplished in what you do. Knowing that it doesn’t have to be perfect but that you gave it your best. And most importantly, that you enjoyed working towards it.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve always considered myself a creative individual. At a very young age I was drawing floor plans, decorating my bedroom in different ways, painting, creating…and I just really enjoyed art and the pretty things! I landed myself at UNT and received a degree in Interior Design and minor in Hospitality. I worked professionally for several years and loved it, but then started a family. I made my kids my priority and decided it was time to leave my career to be with them and I ended up devoting many years to volunteer work. Most of that work included event planning and family/community engagement. I learned over the years, that community, gathering, and connection is incredibly important to me. I love hosting events that bring people together! I also love all the details and decorating that go into making an event extra special and memorable. Presentation and setting the perfect “vibe” make a difference in the success of an event. It make’s perfect sense that I would navigate myself to where I am today, owning my own event planning company, Modern Whimsy Luxury Picnics & Event Co. I love the creative outlet it provides me, and the opportunity to work with clients in making their celebration one to remember!
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients for us has been through social media and referrals. We have several repeat clients as well as a strong social media following. It is a challenge consistently posting and using social media but very affective for marketing.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think being good communicators, being reliable, and sharing our beautiful work online has built our positive reputation. The positive reviews we receive online also help build trust for potential clients that we will deliver a beautiful experience for them. We think of all the details and aim to provide the most stress free, fun, and memorable luxury picnic or event for our clients.
